 Hi, I need to pick your brains! I have a Zero88 Bullfrog desk. It hold memories fine when powered up but if powered down wipes all it's memories. It's been back to Zero88 twice and they have no idea what's causing the problem - which is worrying!. Just wondered if anyone had come across this problem and what it might be?

Many thanks.

I'd be surprised if Zero88 hadn't checked the battery!

When you say that they couldn't find out what was causing the issue - do you know if they managed to reproduce the fault at all, or was the desk perfectly behaved while they had hold of it? Have you only noticed this issue while the desk has been in one specific venue and/or in a specific place within the venue?

Dominic - are you sure Zero 88 are looking for the same fault you are seeing - in other words did you report the problem and speak to them yourself? If it is a solid problem and occurs every time you power off, then I find it hard to believe Z88 are sending it back unrepaired whatever the cause (although battery has to be the favourite). However if it is an intermittent problem, it might just have behaved perfectly with them and so come back as no fault found (in which case were they aware it was intermittent?).

As a number of the postings have stated this is a symptom of the desk internal battery having gone flat. This would also cause the date and time resetting as well. Can you let me know if this is the case.

Standard procedure on reports of this nature is to check the battery, battery holder etc.

If we find the battery or holder to be a problem we replace them.

Desk is then taken to our demo area and programmed with cues, pallets and submasters.

We then run the desk for an hour or so ensure it is replaying everything ok.

Desk is then turned off for a couple of hours and check to see that it has held the programs.

This is then repeated and the off period gets longer each time.

We tend to leave the desk off for a week if possible as this will show and issues with the circuit causing the batteries to be drained.

If at the end of the week the programs are still in memory we the let the customer know this and ask if they want us to test it for any longer.

Unfortunately unless we can replicate the fault with any degree of repeatability it is very difficult to carry out a repair.

When was the last time desk was sent back to us to look at? Do you have the RMA number?

I can go through the repair history and see what we have done with the desk on previous returns, but if this is the desk I am think of I believe we had it back in April this year and we did change the battery when we had it.

Thanks everyone for your replies it's much appreciated. I'll get more detailed information on what the actual response from Zero was was when it came back and get back in touch with you Eric if that's ok. The internal battery as you can see from the replies was definately the obvious answer but I'll find out if that's been changed and wether the fault was intermittent or not.

Thanks again.
