martinkings
Has anyone used these - am looking for a cheapish moving head light & thought about buying 4 of these, so would like to hear any viewpoints about them. I know they're not perfect, but I could do with spending £2500 on 4 moving heads, and they're affordable
lx2010
where are you planing to use these?? they are definatly not suited to the theater enviroment and parts are not allways available when they go wrong you would be much better spending the money on say 2 to 4 used mac 250s complete with flight case on ebay if your willing to bid for them these would be a much better purchase like the ones listed here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Martin-Mac-250-movin...=item4cf17739b1 because in the long run spares and repairs if going to be alot less hassle and if you dont realy need the extra light output then those would be the way to go thanks oli
martinkings
I was planning on using them for band venue - 400 seater, but pretty spacious. Have hired mac 500s in the past, but can't afford to buy, so thought this would be a good option where are you planing to use these?? they are definatly not suited to the theater enviroment and parts are not allways available when they go wrong you would be much better spending the money on say 2 to 4 used mac 250s complete with flight case on ebay if your willing to bid for them these would be a much better purchase like the ones listed here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Martin-Mac-250-movin...=item4cf17739b1 because in the long run spares and repairs if going to be alot less hassle and if you dont realy need the extra light output then those would be the way to go thanks oli
paulears
Here we go again. So an old Martin Mac250 is brighter than a Stairville 575? Really? The newer Martins like the Entours are very bright, but I don't think Mac250s were that bright when they first came out. You're also suggesting he buys more reliable kit than the Stairvilles (which seem to have a 3 year guarantee from Mr T) and purchase 3 and a half Mac250s - but as spares are available that's ok? The general rule seems to be that half the membership would not consider buying cheaper movers for a number of reasons - but essentially these are:Reliability and the inconvenience of sending them away for serviceRe-sale value and lifespanPerformance - sometimes feature limited or performance issues like brightness, noise, fixed beam angle, no remote focus or zoom etcBrand - Martin and the other big names are more 'worthy' brands - having 4 obiwankinobi movers won't impress anyone by name. It's up to the individual to decide what feature and benefits make sense. 3 years cost free use and a pretty fixed installation that won't knock them about that much wouldn't really worry me that much. Questions for LX2010 - What is your experience with these actual units based on your reply above. What issues did you have sourcing parts for them and why are they definately not suited to the theatre enviroment?

That's not what lx2010 was suggesting :) However, agree wholeheartedly with the rest of your post. I'm sure everyone at some point has bought some old, secondhand "named" kit in preference for new "lesser-named" stuff and then possibly regretted it when the sensor/motor/board/WHY exhibited some undocumented SFX? Or is it just me?
