gdavey
I am looking at hiring a few (around 3) Robe Digispots for our Christmas show (A Christmas Carol). We are based down in Surrey and I'm struggling to find anyone with any to hire. I know that HSL has some, but they are a way away, so was looking for someone closer. Does anyone know anyone who has any? Also, having never used them before, how easy are they to set up? I'm going to be controlling them from Magic Q 100, and have used this to control media servers before. So do I need to go on a training course or are they pretty simple? One last question - which one to go for. The space isn't huge (10m wide by around 8m deep), so I was thinking of going for the 3000 variety, but will it be punchy enough?Cheers Guy
Joe Bleasdale
Hi, Does it have to be Robe? I know of DL2/3 in London and they have more layers now. They are 6000 or 6500 lumens with the same resolution of the Robe's. Neg Earth have DL2 units, plenty to sort you out and they are well kept. CT London also have some. But be warned, any type of digital fixture is quite expensive and even something of the size of the 3000 is still quite chunky. As for programming, I can't comment on the Robes specifically or even MagicQ. But with DL2/3 you patch 1 Global Layer, 1 Motion Layer, then however many Graphics Layers you want. For a DL2 you can have upto 4 Graphics layers and the DL3 can have upto 9 Graphics Layers. However this is only possible in the new V2.0 software. Old software only allows for 3 layers of Graphics. If you make plenty of useful groups for the different layers etc control shouldn't be too hard. It's prettymuch the same as programming a normal Media Server, the only addition to it is the Motion Layer. I would however suggest having a read of the manual for the fixture, having a printed version of the protocal infront of you when you program AND try to get into your supplier for a day andsit and do some pre-programming on them. Hope this helps,
