twitchy Posted September 7, 2010 Share Posted September 7, 2010 hi all new to this forum and ive searched for hours but even in the martin service area I cannot find any info on how to properly clean a Martin Mac 600 wash fixture. I am wary to use my normal cleaning agents as if any of those get onto the wheels or into the light path the fixture could have grave issues. so I am hoping either someone has experience in the cleaning of these fixtures or even better has a link to a nice how to on what I am trying to accomplish. thanks in advance Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
stuart.thompson Posted September 8, 2010 Share Posted September 8, 2010 Hi, When cleaning the colours and lenses in a moving head its important to use the right solution. I use Isoclene which is an Isopropanol Cleaning Fluid, this is 99.7% pure isopropyl alcohol. This is good as it will evaporate and will not leave any residue on the colours or lenses. Do not use glass cleaning products from the supermarket like window cleaner, this is an abrasive solution and will scratch and damage the colours. Depending on how dirty the colours are you can either dry wipe them the remove the dust but if the dust is thick then apply some isopropyl to the colours and wipe them clean this way. When it comes to cleaning the head of a MAC 600 you need to remove the head cover then unplug the igniter and the wires from the main module inside the head. After this you can undo the 8 screws that hold the module in place to remove the module from the head to clean. When the module is out of the head you can use a paint brush and a compressor to free up and blast any dirt out of the head. then clean the heat filter and the fresnel lens with some isoclene cleaner. When cleaning the module I will take this apart so I have every wheel infront of me on the bench so I can give them a good clean. This module can be a bit tricky to take apart and put back together correctly so I advise you make notes when takign it apart if you have never done it before as when you put it back together every washer and wheel has to go back the same way it comes off of the main 2 shafts or you will find the module will not work correctly. I find it easier to take it apart from the bottom up. The motors are on springs so you can tilt them towards the wheels so you can easily get the timing belts off. After you cleaned it you just need to reverse the process to put the module back together, as I said its very important to get the washers back in the correct place or you will find the wheels may catch each other or the wheels will be stiff and not rotate freely. The most important washers are the ones that are slightly smaller then the shaft on the colour wheels. these must be put on last or when you tighten up the module the whole thing will sieze up. with the rest of the unit some compressed air in the base to get rid of the dirt is sufficient, just make sure not to catch the fans or the will spin up very fast and could potentially damage the main PCB as they could create a voltage. I put a flat headed screwdriver in the fan blades before I use compressed air to stop the fans from spinning. Hope this helps Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
