HDCP

Hi

We have been asked by a client to playback a couple of blue rays for an event, but we are having issues with HDCP. Does anyone know of a HDCP stripper or a bit kit that removes HDCP? We know that they used to produce them but when the copyright laws changed and HDCP was introduced, HDCP strippers became illeagal.

We know it works at 1080i component in our set up but the client has requested 1080p. Here is the ideal chain of kit which we are planning on using.

Blue ray-- HDMI to DVI lead---- Barco Screen pro HD---Fibre DVI extender---Barco HD8

Barco screen pro can be changed to either a Kramer 727 switcher.

any ideas?

The DCS200 is HDCP compliant, so would enable the HDCP signal to be received, and then output to to the projector over the DVI I believe.

I believe that manufacturers have to 'buy in' to a HDCP Licence, and part of that is that I believe they have to agree to such things as not being able to create devices that bypass the HDCP system.

the problem may be with your fibre extender as not all pass back the hdcp as not all do. Is suggest that the only reliable system is to go out the bluray on component or ask for the source files and play them back digitaly . As you are working for the client rather than bootleging their discs in not bother with the bodge boxes or dehdcp software, simply suggest that you can play their files digitaly at 1080p if you get them or their discs reliably at 1080i if you cant.

Every time ive used a bluray over hdmi has been a total pain and required everything turning off and on again to get it to work id rather not risk it as in my expererience if its not rock solid, its going to break just when it shouldnt.

Agree get a 1080p source file, the chaps that edited their stuff should have it and be able to supply, then playback from a hard disc machine of what ever description you like.

I came across DHCP with macs into a Diventix 2 this wk, just found disabling it in the switcher s/w sorted me out..Don't know too much about dhcp...so if anyone knows a good site then post here pls.

It is starting to become more of an issue, and one of those annoying things that will make the AV Engineers life a little harder. We've had it with a few Bluerays and our SPII's, as well as with a Mac or two over the DVI ports. Worst case is take it back to an analogue signal and deal with it that way. Not pretty, but it can work.

Someone has managed to recreate the Private HDCP Master Key using the public keys available (cryptology is cool, no?), which may spell the useful end of HDCP - or at least the current generation of it. I won't link to it here, but Google will explain how it was done and what it means for the future of HDCP.

Interesting stuff, whatever your feelings on DRM...

TBH this doesn't mean that much, HDCP has been effectively broken for a long time already as you can see from the devices already listed. All this means is that it now can't be fixed.

What this is useful for is companies who want to create products that use HDCP without paying the license fees, expect a lot of imported HDCP kit some time soon.
