IA76
Hi Let's say that I'm using this 50w volume control for one hall http://cpc.farnell.com/pro-signal/psg03180...-50w/dp/AV18762 What will happen if there is actually 100w of speakers in this room connected to this unit? Simon Lewis
What will happen if there is actually 100w of speakers in this room connected to this unit? If you drive the amplifier towards its maximum power output, it's likely that the volume control will get hot and may fail. Simon
stillwave
if the speakers are accessible, you could check what tappings they are set to. A lot of 100V speakers have a few different options to how much power they take. it could be that 100W of speaker are installed but the tappings mean they are less than this. Although I would still advise getting at least a 100W volume control though, as a few years down the line some numpty will come along and either add speakers or change the tappings to higher wattages!
