Ross Bristo
Hi, I've just purchased a Pulsar rackpak dimmer to add to the arsenal. The current set up is a Zero88 Demux 24 with a single 8 pin din output that goes in to a 8 pin - 5 pin din splitter, the 2 cables from the splitter then go to 2 inputs on the pack of the Pulsar dimmer (5 pin DIN) On the Pulsar dimmer I received today, the inputs in to the dimmer are 8 pin DIN as opposed to 5 pin on the other two pulsar dimmers I have, which is no problem. However, I'm struggling to find a splitter that will take a 8 pin din in to two 8 pin dins. Does anyone know where I might find a splitter to fit my requirements? Any help is appreciated, Ross
musht
a Zero88 Demux 24 with a single 8 pin din output that goes in to a 8 pin - 5 pin din splitter, Not familiar with specific demux but name implies 24 channels out, so surely more than one 8 pin out, 6 channels ground and sometimes +V coming back from rack. Think various pinouts are in wiki, but do check how your units have been wired.
madorangepanda
Our Demux24 has 4 8pin DIN connectors on the front. Each controls 6 channels. By the sounds of it the 5 pin DINs control only 3 channels each and each rack takes 2 of these in to control 6 channels. Therefore you need to split one of the 8 pin DIN connectors. If so you can just use one of the other DIN connectors on the front straight to your new dimmers. No need to split it.
Ross Bristo
Hi, @madorangepanda:- Going by what you say, the other dimmers (which are 5 pin) need two 5 pins in because 5 pin only handles 6 channels. However, on my new dimmer (which is 8 pin), will only need one 8 pin din? I did notice that on the back of my dimmer, the inputs were labeled:- 1-6 (1-3) and on the other input (4-6, if required). So, can I assume that I need tp run one 8 pin din from the Demux, in to one of the dimmer inputs (on the labelled 1-6)? Sorry, I dont work with DIM to often and the other dimmers were installed before I worked in the location...im a DMX man. ;)
madorangepanda
5 Pin DIN will likely only control 3 Channels. Though there may be 2 socket outlets on each channel. For the new dimmer try running an 8 pin DIN straight into it. On one of the connectors, you should have control over 6 channels. (Though there may be 12 sockets, but these are paired) What model number are both the old and new dimmers? May be able to give a more precise answer with that. J Pearce
If its a Zero88 demux and a Pulsar dimmer a straight 8 pin din won't work. Pulsar use a strange pinout just to be helpful. This may be why the existing dimmers are using the 5 pin din 3ch inputs. You can use the 8 pin input but you need to make a cable which corrects the pinout (and then plug it in the right way round!). The necessary information is available in the Blue Room Wiki.
Ross Bristo
Hi, The dimmer is a Pulsar RackPak(st) 6x10 amp (6 channel, 12 socket) - http://www.pulsarlight.com/Products/Dimmer...42/Default.aspx I cannot exactly remember the specs of the other dimmers, but they are the same except there are only 6 sockets (6 channel). J Pearce
In that case you'll need 2 8 pin din connectors, some 8 core cable, a soldering iron, a pot of tea and plenty of patience.

Patience is one skill I don't possess when it comes to making anything larger than a 5pin DMX ;) ...I can do the tea tho!
