Selecon Performer 1200

Hi Guys, Have been thrown in the deep end using the selecon performer 1200. Can we close the iris up to blackout with adjustment and how easy is this to do.[At present it is not fully closing to black]. Also have a purple fringe on spot. Can I adjust to fix this? No instruction manual or quality help to call on.

You can't close an iris to blackout - they don't work that way. Presumably you want to iris down to a blackout - you might have to practice a bit with the iris and dowser controls! The manual is here - should hopefully help you out! Have a play with the peak/flat adjustment and maybe the focus controls to try and get rid of the purple "fringe" (I'd call it a corona) but you may not be able to get a totally clean edge.

There are some irises that do close fully, but these are a very special design that basically has a single floating leaf that closes the final hole in the middle.

- I don't like them much as I find them quite unreliable.

You cannot adapt an existing iris to do this, so you'll need to practice using the iris and dowser together.

Some degree of colour fringing is expected with all luminaires, though some fixtures are better than others. (It depends on the specifics of the optics, particularly the lens coatings).

However, while you don't get to change the laws of physics, you usually do get to choose whether you want a blue or a red fringe by adjusting the focus ever-so-slightly.
