MagicQ PC Sound cueing

Recommended Posts

For a particular project I bought a Enttec open DMX usb converter to use MagicQ PC software to control some lights. That works now very well. The next step is, to make my lightingshow sync with the sound. How can I make MagicQ sending a trigger to a soundapplication on my computer, like Ableton or Winamp or something else?

I heard I can do somthing with Midi, but I dont know how! Please help me out!:)

Note that the only MagicQ support is through the MagicQ MIDI/SMPTE interface. MIDI/SMPTE

directly through PC MIDI interfaces or through the phone (rca) interfaces on the consoles is not supported.

Page 235 onwards in the Manual explains it all.

No,

Chamsys give you the software for free and allow you get DMX out of it without having to buy anything from them. In exchange, if you want to use some of the more advanced feature you have to purchase the correct equipment from them.

I had to purchase both the audio interface (think sound to light) AND the MIDI interface despite owning the MQ100 Pro in order to make full use of the software but I consider both these boxes to have more than earned their purchase price especially when you look at what they allow you to do.

If your lights are generics, or movers with very simple requirements, then PCStage will do lights and sounds and other things all in one package, but that will cost you for a new interface.

Alternatively, look at ShowMagic.

Everybody is talking about buying things...so, there is no solution just free? I think I will realise it by starting a track, with 5 seconds quite on the track, and then start the cuelist. Or starting a CD player and the lighting show at the same time.

Oh, yes I know this is the way world works. I bought an Enttec thing, and I realise I have this great MagicQ system for free.. But the particular project is that small, it doesn't have the budget to buy more things. So, I'll choose the cheap option. That will work 2. If I want to do bigger things, I'll buy the MA 2port node

Try googling for "Artnet media player" or "artnet winamp interface". You might have some luck with something like that. Theres no need when going from software to software, to have a hardware interface.
