Philus
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows of any hardware or software units that can do a single repeat delay cheaply, i.e. to delay a source by a specified length on time rather than to add delays to a dry source. We're running video playback from a PC and it's running through various mixers, scalers and display systems which all add a differing amount of video delay depending on the configeration. Currently we've been using a D2 to delay the audio feed so it matches the video but this just seems like a bit of overkill and we could be using the D2 more suitably elsewhere. So I'm looking for a cheap(ish) box that will simply delay the stereo feed, one dial on the front with delay time would be perfect, set it and leave it. Or alternatively a piece of software that will delay the main out on the PC so that we don't need a stand alone box. I've had a look around on the net and all I can find are multi-fx processers, surely there is something like this available, I know delay stacks/towers are often delayed either in the digi-desk or on the system controller but surely this is not the only way to do it? ThanksPhil

MarkPAman
A quick :) for "Software audio delay" brings up lots of hits. By the looks of it this one should be able to do the job if you set the input to the right place. It has a free trial and only costs $10 :P
Peter F
Instead of using 2 of the Behringer units suggested above, you could use just one Behringer DSP2024P. They appear to be the same price as the unit specced above. I can confirm having used one for exactly this application recently that they will do the job perfectly well. I did have a look around for a dedicated delay unit but nothing came close on price. If you have any sort of digital processor on your speaker system there is a very good chance that you can do the delays with that. If you use VideoLAN / VLC as your playback software do a quick search for the nattily titled "Audio desynchronisation compensation" option. That allows you to shift your audio either forward or backwards to accomodate sync problems. Cheers, Peter
