megabyte1986
Hello there , Im working in a bingo hall and we have started to get in entaiment every couple of months for the custmers during there bingo great fun not ** laughs out loud ** installed in the buliding 8 par cans with dimmers etc and I ve been on the hunt for the desk to find a lightmaster 1200 zero 88, now ive found the analogue connections pluged them in and the dimmers do not power the desk as I been looking on the web and found that some do but mine dont sadly, im now trying to figure out the power supply it says on the desk 20 V 200 ma with a 2 core cable coming out the desk as someone has sniped it so cant plug it in was wondering if anyone could help me with advice to if I can just put a plug on the end and its got a built in transformer hey presto or did it have a power pack transformer connected to it to bring the power down? dont want to put plug stight on as if no transformer inside could end up bit smoky ** laughs out loud **! Many thanks
niclights
The desk needs 20V (presumably DC). You definitely can't put a 13A plug on the end of it. Ideally you should use a genuine Z88 power supply but alternatively any 20V transformer that can supply at least 180mA should work fine, assuming you can work out the correct polarity... springgrove
If you have one, or can get access to one, I would try it with a variable dc power supply, slowly turning up from 0V. Of course, the polarity must be correct - perhaps the lead has red and black wires? Probably anything from 15V to 20V will be ok. Then you could scrounge a redundant laptop supply - these are usually 18V and have a little diagram showing whether centre or outside of the plug is positive. The current capability of these will almost certaionly be fine - again there is nearly always a specification printed. When niclights says a 'transformer', he means a dc supply. themadhippy
2 9V batteries in series might give enough juice to get it running to make sure it works before spending any cash

They probably wouldn't be beefy enough to fry it in case you got the polarity wrong either. Although, I'm fairly sure it'll have a diode to protect it.... surely!
