Ynot
Been trawling the t'internet looking for a decent quality DMX splitter card I can install into a distro box I'm installing - needs to be relatively compact with at least 4 outputs which I'll be wiring to the 4 XLR outs on the front panel. Found some on Fleabay, but they're in the US. Google throws up all sorts of weird & wonderful things, but very few hits on an actual skeleton card. Budget isn't an issue, though as with everything I don't want to pay through the nose... Any ideas, gang?
timsabre
Artistic Licence do some DIN rail mount ones but they are quite expensive. I would suggest getting a cheap boxed unit which uses an external power supply - example: http://proto-pic.co.uk/products/4-Way-DMX-Splitter.html (costs £41.99)and just remove the case. On second thoughts that one looks as if the DMX connectors are PCB mounted, if you want to run to external connectors you'd be better off with maybe the one from Thomann or similar which uses panel mount XLRs. timmath
I know XTBA do a 2 way split card, think they do a bigger one too. From memory the the cost is in excess of you average cheepo 6 way splitter but never had any problems with their rackmount units.

And which Thomann one? I searched their site earlier but only found cased models.Or do you mean buy a cased model and break it up?
Chiefy
Hi Stage Electrics have two Swisson 3 pin DMX buffers in their clearance section, see here for more info... these units can be easily rackedSwisson Clearance or see here for our full range...Stage LX DMX Hope this helps? tokm
May be worth giving GSL Power a call.. Reason I mention them is because I know they recently supplied a load of pcb DMX splitters for one of our suppliers, who then finished the units off by putting them in some company branded project boxes. Build/parts quality is top notch.. They're the same hardware as the proplex DMX splitters that TMB sell, in fact GSL make for TMB.. The complete units themselves aren't silly money in the first place so I'd imagine just the bare bones PCB (with or without power supply and sockets) wouldn't cost the earth. Ynot
May be worth giving GSL Power a call..Cheers. Dropped them an e-mail. As for the SLX Swisson stuff, that unit looks like it would likely be PCB mounted outlets...? In which case unlikely to be a go-er. And I don't want to rack mount it - it's actually going in a Stage LX black-box - got them 2 or 3 years back - split for data/mains.
Jivemaster
http://www.xtba.co.uk/products/splitters.htm Good stuff, UK designed, whether it suits is up to you.

dbuckley
What you want is one of there, widely available in the UK under several different brand names, and you can whip the PCB out. This is whats inside: http://davidbuckley.name/pix/splitter_inside.jpg
Ynot
What you want is one of there, ...Possibly not...The box is only about 5 inches deep - that one looks a little wider, unfortunately. The same as one of our existing boxed splitters (which I've already looked into, I should have said). Surprisingly, those queries I've made thus far put the bare bones cards at at least £150 to £250!! Which whilst I said budget isn't an issue, that DOES start to at into the coffers... And the previous thread - yes I had read that but again it seems to just look at ready-made options...
dbuckley
The box is only about 5 inches deep - that one looks a little wider, unfortunately.Hmmmmm.... (seemed appropriate!) To save a couple of hundred quid, you could "reduce" the size of that PCB by removing the transformers and chopping the PCB at that point. The mounting of the transformers is the worst bit of this splitters design, and I dread the day when I drop the thing; the resultant box internals will not be pretty. But, if you lopped them off you could have a custom toroidal tranny made with five secondary windings Unfortunately, Lord Transformers, who made many a custom transformer for me, and who I would have sent you to, who would make just such an item, appear to have vanished :) But a custom tranny of 20W rating should be only a few tens of quids. DrV
If you fancy making up a PCB assembly from scratch there is an Elektor article here for a 3 way splitter with isolation. There is also a link to a supplier of the blank PCB. All the bits are available from RS/Farnell. It would be easy to strap two of them together to make a 4, 5 or 6 output version. Ynot
take a look at - linkB*gger me - CPC was my first search and I missed that one completely!! Even missed it in the catalogue/doorstop...By the dimensions it does indeed look like it will fit inside the box, though it's still close to the £150 mark (inc vat). However, if it DOES fit then it's a FAR easier install than a solder job...Thanks for that Henny - it's so far highest on my list!
