Reverb on a Phonic AM844D

Gerry

Recommended Posts

I'm new to live sound mixing.

Using a Phonic AM844D.

Want some reverb on the singers. Read the manual, honest, but can't get any reverb or anything else.

The test tones and pink noise work OK.

I am obviously missing something simple.

Can anybody give me an easy to follow idiots guide on how to add reverb?

Cheers

Gerry

Answering my own question.

There is a fault with the desk. The button to switch on or off the efx doesn't lock on.

Can get reverb etc. if I keep the button pressed.

Perhaps a piece of gaffa tape is the answer until it can be sent for repair.

Cheers

Well, based only on a quick read of the manual:

Turn on the effects generator (Button 36 in the manual)

Select the effect you want (I'd probably start with something like "Small Hall" or "Small plate")

Fade up the vocal mic(s) you want reverb on

Turn up the Aux 3 knob on the mic channel(s)

Turn up the Aux 3/4 send knob in the Master section (43 in the manual)

Turn up the Aux 3 return knob in the Master section (38 in the manual)

Use the buttons to route Aux 3 return either direct to the main out or to a group and then to the mix (39 in the manual)

(By using the solo buttons on the Aux 3/4 send and the Aux 3 return you should get these on the metering to set up your gain structure.)

The Aux 3 return knob can be used to balance the "wet" effect with the dry vocal on the channel fader.

Hope the above is right.

Edited to add: Doh! your addition cropped up while I was juggling windows between this post and the pdf manual.

Thanks for the reply

Button 36 not locking on is the problem. Gaffa tape seems to work. :)

Now button 36 has been 'fixed', you can use a foot-switch to turn the verb on or off.

No idea if the foot-switch needs to be latched or not as the manual doesn't tell you. I would guess that it needs to be latched.

  • 1 month later...

Sent the mixer back to Thamann for repair.

Got it back today with a note that it was working OK.

They included a note on how the efx section should be activated.

Very different to what the manual says. :)

A case of RTFM doesn't help.

I am emailing Thomann and AMD to suggest they get themanual corrected.

Gerry, can you share this information with me?

I encountered the same problem, where fx were only engaged while holding down the "on" button and found this thread in my search for help. (after RTFM)

so the button is not intended to latch? what is the proper procedure for using effects?
