Shadowing shows

Hi

I wasn't too sure where to put this, as there is only really a yes / no answer, but could do with a bit of help.

I have contacted a couple of SM's/PM's on touring shows, which are visiting Bristol soon, and asked about shadowing their stage teams for part of the run. Both asked for my age (18) and full contact details, which I supplied, as this had to be passed through their system.

However a few weeks have passed and I have heard nothing back. Would it be worth contacting them to see if the application has progressed or leaving it be, and wait for them to get back to me as they may be very busy or it takes a few weeks to get through systems ??

Thanks.

If it has really been " a few weeks" then there is nothing wrong with a polite nudge.

How far in advance are these shows? It may just be that they are just not thinking that far ahead.

Like the others say you should contact them again. Keep contacting them until you get an answer. It shows you are realy serious and keen. The worst thing they can say is only 'no', in which case you could just perhaps try another theatre or something.

A couple of years back I went to shadow a show at a local theatre. A week previously I'd interviewed the head of lx and sound at the theatre for a college project, and he offered me the opertunity to, and we arranged for me to shadow them on a show. It was a great experience, it was a panto with 3 acts, the first act I shadowed them in the wings and witnessed general set changes and so on, for the second act I shadowed the LX op (For this show it was the head of lx and sound) and the SM in the lighting box and for the third act I was back in the wings and witnessed them doing the pyros.

It was a realy good experience, it gave me a realy good insight as to how a proper professional theatre functions during a production. It also gave my pasion of technical theatre stuff a real good boost. When I left after the show I'd also gained a weeks work experience at the theatre which I did a few months later.

I wish you the best of luck in hearing back from them and getting your opertunity

EDIT: Re-worded it slightly

As the others have said, tread the line between showing that your serious, and not bugging the hell out of them! If you've emailed them and had no response for a say 3 or 4 days, then it's possibly worth a phone call. The phone call may also give you an idea of how they actually feel, as there can often be a tone that you don't get from the email.

All the best.

the emails have been sent to personal email addresses of the appropriate people.

One has given a result, in a phone interview/call from the company manager this morning and agreeing up to a week next month in Bristol.

The other has yet to get back to me.

thanks for the help =]
