Samwise
Hi All, We've a dead Martin Magnum 1200 smoke machine here. The electronics fire up, heating light comes on and I can read 240V across the connectors for the heating element. However with the unit turned off I cannot read a circuit through the heating element at all. Is this due to the heating element having a very high resistance (to generate heat?) or is it a very dead element? If so can anybody recommend a decent dealer for spares? All the best, Sam. MrJay
I'd say you might not get a reading as the element will have to be pretty tough to deal with the heat, the easiest way to tell if it's heating or not would be put your hand on the machine if it's hot the element is working ** laughs out loud ** :) It could even be something to do with triggering the machine to fog? Have you tried DMX and the remote?
Samwise
Ah yes, I should have mentioned the element does not heat at all. The DMX signal LED is lit as it should be but I cannot get the pump to turn over with the element being cold. As for the remote - I think it's in a box... somewhere... MrJay
I'm no expert by the way so please don't take what I say as fact..... But if you have 240v into the element and the heating light is on it could be the element has gone. You could try digging out the remote and see if that does anything to rule out something isn't faulty with the DMX module :)
themadhippy
However with the unit turned off I cannot read a circuit through the heating element at all.so its open circuitIs this due to the heating element having a very high resistance (to generate heat?)Are you aware of Mr.ohm and his laws?my quess is the elephant has packed its trunk and said goodbye

stuart.thompson
you should be able to use your multimeter and do a continuaty check thru the heating element. If the multimeter doesn't beep out then heating element has gone open circuit and needs replacing
