MrJay
Hi I'm hoping someone here might be able to help me I've got a few 518's one of them the colour wheel sensor has gone, I've called Martin a couple of times now and keep getting told they're looking into finding a replacement but feel I'm getting no where, So I figured I'll just get a replacement sensor myself the problem I have is which one is it hall or opto? Heres a picture of it.... http://a.imageshack.us/img829/8707/img0011536x2048.th.jpg Many thanks to anyone that is able to help :)

MrJay
Finally got the full size version of the picture working grrrrr damn imageshack's forum link ** laughs out loud ** :) Was afraid of that..... When I went to look at both I found hall versions that look like the one in the picture as well so that didn't help much!
marktownend
That's definitely the opto sensor - there should be a slot of approx 5mm in the edge of the wheel which rotates through the sensor. Occasionally the error can be where the wheel has been loosened on the stepper shaft (think I may have put a post either on here or on UKSLC several years ago saying how to sort it but that's up to you to search). Another fault with these sensors can be a dry joint where the sensor is soldered to the small PCB. However, the sensors are also known to go faulty (I've actually got to source one myself when I get round to it!). The hall sensors are small (approx 3mm) square magnetic sensors that sit flat on the PCB, whilst the slot in the wheel has a small magnet gunked in. Also MrJay, it helps on the Blue Room if you fill in your profile details to let us know where you are. You could be 2 doors away from my workshop or 12000 miles! MrJay
Thanks for the advice Mark the wheel is definitely tight on the shaft and after opening it up and powering it on the colour wheel just keeps spinning, Swapped a working sensor from another light and it was fine then put the faulty one in the unit that was fine and the colour wheel kept spinning. Guess I'm off to hunt for a new sensor... Sorry I'll go fill that in now I'm too used to things like that not being that important, I'm not too far from you only in west sussex but also have a motorbike ** laughs out loud ** :) *EDIT* http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchB...t&R=6675039 Decent match for a 518? KevinE
Whats the number on the original one?
marktownend
Ha, the joys of the BR - it's 9.30pm and we're discussing part numbers. I've even just managed to find a scrap of paper on the desk that shows all the markings on the opto sensor I'm looking to replace. Martin part 101134A (I realise that will be an old-system part number and is probably for the complete PCB assembly). The markings on the actual sensor are:ISO 5SHARP 530.5 Which mean nothing to me but MrJay at least seems to be heading in the right direction for us. I'll fully admit that electronic components aren't my strong point. Edit to add:And a quick Google makes me think the 53 may if we're lucky be a small part of the manufacturer's part number which leads me to this one http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchB...t&R=6666530 as my preferred guesstimate unless we hear otherwise. Edited again to add:And looking at the specs the only difference is 2mm in the height of the component and I believe that sort of dimension is small enough to be not much to worry about on a 518 as you can always mount the PCB on the wrong side of the bracket it fixes to which would move it by about a convenient 2mm! MrJay
Mine has all the same markings as yours except it has Sharp 54 written on it. I just went and dug out the high quality metal ruler which measures in half mm as well and found it's closer to 10mm where as the plastic one (Got it wrong) was saying 11mm which is why I went for the 12mm one! So Mark the one you linked is in fact closer to the original spec only thing that does slightly concern me is the max operating temperature which is only 85c but at the same time I can't see the originals being any better..... Guess theres only one thing to do and that's order some and see how they perform also looking into getting hold of an EPROM programmer to update the software on some units as I have ones on 5.8 and 6.4 which is bugging me :)
stuart.thompson
Martin part number is 62003000 - PCB Hall sensor Pro1220/Pro518 hope this helps
Tow
The PDF spec on the link to RS shows an upside 'S53' as the model number in the Outline Dimensions drawings. Here is the datasheet for the S50/S51/S54 (no S53), the only difference seems to be the case size/mounting : http://www.datasheetcatalog.org/datasheet/Sharp/mXqxrsx.pdf You can have a look at the two datasheets to see if there are any electrical differences. MrJay
I can confirm the RS-Online link that mark posted is a perfect match for the sensor it fits the PCB and definitely works! :) Stuart thats the wrong sensor these are optoelectronic not hall.....
