bassfreak
Hi all. The last couple of weeks we've been having a strange problem with one of our TTs18 subs. It doesn't happen all the time but last night after just playing a couple of songs, the sub goes on and off, it's a definite pulsing pattern as well, also the 4 lights on the back light up, flash on and off like a ladder. It's only happening with one of the subs. They're not being pushed at all and never hit the red light so can't be a limiter problem. It's a strange problem and whilst doesn't happen all the time, it's bugging us now.
simonwest
By the 'sub goes on and off'...... Does the sub loose power?or does the power to the amplifier circuit remain but no audio is produced?

The sub was on the other side of the stage to me, our keyboard player mixes from his side of the stage and noticed that when it does it, the lights light up and go up and down like a ladder. Doug Siddons
Justa thought but check the power lead and the plug board your using, had a similar problem on a show with a guitar amp plugged into a surge protection plug board. It would appear the surge protection circuitry was having a moment for some reason, now in the naughty corner
bassfreak
I'll phone Greg if he doesn't see this first, will try the power thing, might be because too many other things are been plugged into the same board.
johndenim
IIRC your subs should still be under warranty? Or, have you had them more that a year?Yes, not seen too much of Greg on here recently, maybe try sending him a PM.

Hi John, we've had them over a year but they do carry a 3 year warranty if my memory serves me right. Anyway it's a weird problem as it's fine with music playback so and works fine and the driver is fine etc. It seems that there is something setting it off, no idea what though. bassfreak
Well checked all the power leads, tightened them all up and it's still doing it. The problem seems to be that it goes on and off. It's a definite pulse whaich can only be described like a drum machine beat, maybe some kind of digital problem???????? Very strange. I've tried ringing you Greg but cannot get through. bassfreak
Update - We ran the sub through the mono out from the desk and bypassed the crossover in the bin and it performed well, so maybe it's a crossover problem??
bassfreak
Well after doing a pa hire I could assess the bin properly to see what it was doing and took some video to ecplain the problem better. This 1st video is a short one of the problem happening, you can hear as the band is playing that the sound is going on and off and see the lights flashing: http://s355.photobucket.com/albums/r467/ph...10092010013.mp4 this 2nd video is after I disconnected the bin and ran it from the top only (I engaged the 90hz high pass on the top). You can see that even though the bin is disconnected it still does it, also even when I disconnected the power it was still doing it for a short while. http://s355.photobucket.com/albums/r467/ph...10092010014.mp4 Seems that it may be a dodgy capacitor or something like that.?????????? I guess it's not a common problem, it's certainly not a problem I would expect for a top of the range sub costing over 2 grand. ;)
paulears
Well, it's not going to get better on it's own - so bite the bullet and get it fixed? You've proved it's nothing simple or obvious, so now it needs the expert touch. even Range Rovers get the odd puncture!

I've been ringing around to get it fixed, apparently even RCF don't know why it's doing it. The problem is we need it every weekend and can't gig without it.
