andrewg112
Hello,Probly a very silly question, but I cant afford to get it wrong! http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_lichts...x_extension.htm Would this dimmer bar from the bundle, be able to have a different light on a different DMX address? also I would like to buy 2 of the bundles, and im guessing they would not interfere as you can set the addresses differently? Has anyone had any experince with this dimmer bar, or should I get a few models up. Also what about the bulb for the par can, ive never had any experience of buying these, so what do people think? Thanks,Andrew
madorangepanda
Seemingly you can control all 4 channels. http://www.botex.com/3/t4.html
paulears
Have you thought about just buying a cheap dimmer pack - this thomann one might do? It's about £130, then you could buy the stands and a couple of simple crossbars, and spend your money on the cans/lamps and some cable. You could get a little help cabling the dimmers and fitting sockets etc, but you could put 5 pairs of 300W cans on them. The bar type dimmers are convenient, cut down the wiring, but they limit you by always being in one place. Sticking a dimmer pack into a box means you can perhaps buy floor cans, which could be mounted on a bar, or stuck on the floor? 300W PAR56 lamps are not that expensive, and come in many beam widths from wide to narrow. Nid
+1 to the versatility aspects that Paulears mentioned, but the OP is looking for individual DMX address for each light/channel.This IS possible with the Botex T-4 but not with most of the basic stand alone dimmer packs. They usually only have means of setting the first channel DMX address, and the remaining channels are automatically patched following this. (This can be overcome by soft patching your DMX output channels at the control/software if it has this feature...) I have a couple of the T-4s and use them allot. The major downside in them I find annoying sometimes is their 'bumpy' dimming curve toward the zero end. They have this nasty 'step' at around 5% that is especially noticeable when working alongside lights fed from proper dimmers. Also, the preheat feature is useless as even when set to minimum (1%) the fixture (1000w Par64 in my case) lights up as if at 5% or so. :D
musht
Hello,Probly a very silly question, but I cant afford to get it wrong! Probably worth asking about application as well, 2 bars of 4 56s is classic small band config, but TBH all but replaced by LED nowadays. Someat like http://www.thomann.de/gb/stairville_led_powerdmx_bar.htm and LED Pars as big as budget allows For drama or similar, tungsten and dimmers is more versatile. Top of stand mounted Multidims, 6 way rack mounting dimmers are great but in portable format connectors will cost at least as much as the dimmer. http://www.thomann.de/gb/showtec_multidim_dmx_uk_vers.htm So whats the general application?
