Whats up Blue Room!

Ok, so I run the lighting and sound at a night club called The Granby Theater in Norfolk, Virginia. There was a club down the street that couldent take the heat and closed down. They were using Color Kinetics Colorblast 12 led Fixtures. They for some odd reason didnt want them any more so I happened to snag about 5 free fixtures from them. I thought it was a great Idea at the time. Little did I know that Color Kinetics fixtures need to be configured using the Philips Smartjack Pros? We have a complete martin lightjockey system that came with the USB-DMX interface. I'm trying to find away around this issue to save a few bucks. any help would be great!

Thanks,

John King

As far as I can see from the manual at here (PDF) the fixtures can be run by any DMX controller. The Smart Jack is just another USB to DMX controller like the lightjockey. You might need to find a fixture file for them, and page 13 of the manual show how to address them.

Dan, the OP is not talking about control.

Many ColorKinetics fixtures can only be addressed using an external device as they have no physical controls on the fixture.

This used to always require a proprietary ColorKinetics device - generally some form of programmer dongle.

The SmartJack Pro is one of these proprietary programmer dongles.

I believe that some of the newer CK fixtures also support RDM addressing - however, I'm uncertain if that is really the case as their datasheets don't make it very clear.

(Dealt with a few installations with various CK fixtures - very annoying when just *one* fixture has the wrong address and you've got to wait for the CK guy to get back to site to correct it. Doubt he enjoyed coming back just to fix a single off-by-one error either.)

I don't believe the configure software will work through the enttec dongle, you would need the smartjack pro to address etc via a computer, or you could use a zapi device. How about trying a local hire company seeing if they have either of these in stock you could borrow/hire for a day or something.
