back_ache
pocket songs are worth a look for casio free songs as though you wouldn't necessarily guess it from their website they come from a backing track rather than karaoke background http://www.pocketsongs.com/ it would be worth engaging with a karaoke jocks forum as some of the serious ones them carry thousands of (legally bought) tracks so would have first hand experience that would allow you to sort the wheat from the chaff on any given song http://www.karaokeinfo.co.uk/forum/
paulears
I've been listening to tracks from some of these firms, and realistically they've all got some good ones and some, er, not so good ones - so well worth trying around for individual tracks, but don't get caught by assuming they're all the same. Try searching for Michael Buble's Cry me a River - some give you the middle section as the sample, others give you the beginning and expose the sample based sources. Nothing wrong with that, they're well done, but it does explain how they can do it for the price. Quite a few are commonly available midi files, that have been arranged. Done rather well, actually, so quite usable. I used to do backing tracks for holiday centres, mostly - but in terms of time, it's now simply not worth it because people can no longer pay what it's worth in time - so these sites are very handy. tom_the_LD
I've used Hittrax before - http://www.hittrax.com.au/ and they've done what I've wanted before! The other option, would be to buy a MIDI file, from say Hittrax, and then you could put it into some software such as "Reason" and use the voices within that. Then once you've chosen voices you like export it as a WAV. This will then sound a lot more "real" than the MIDI voices! If you like I'll show you with a MIDI I bought from them? Upload the original I purchased from them and then a Reason-ed version? Cheers! Tom

Ynot
Believe it or not, you can get some backing/karaoke tracks from Amazon. Again, only 70 or 80p each as I recall. I've picked up a few on occasions from them.

Jivemaster
http://www.emkaraoke.com/contents/en-uk/about.html Is a Karaoke company I used a couple of times, Good stock and service then, so try them. Look at their custom Karaoke discs you chose the songs and the order thay play on the disc, So for money you can chose the show running order very simply. As ever some tracks are worse than others. There are now legal (payable) download sites for Karaoke often files are a zipped MP3 CD+G. Most will play the MP3 track without decoding the G bit. lightsource
Moderation: Edited to remove quote of a spam post which has also been deleted... For years, I have used backing tracks, and have always purchased them from Hands On Midi Software: http://www.hands-on-midi.com/pages/midi/default.asp However, bear in mind I also have various workstation synth's. including the Korg Trition and all purchased tracks have been heavily edited through the Triton. I also have SONAR, for tweaking of the final instruments, and the final mix. Hands On will give you good quality midi files to work with, what you do with them is your problem / solution. Can anyone recomend websites that provide very good quality backing tracks. No, but from a personal point of view, it's more about what you do when you get a midi track, and how you proocess it, to get what you want. As far as I'm aware, Hands On will produce Audio to your specs., So, maybe a point of contact?
