4 Channel Amps

Lab gruppen for me,light weight lots of grunt and suprisingly not to power hungry.Only downside is the can act as a fan heater if your running them inside a van on a hot summers day,but they still didn't complain. The switchable gain and voltage limiters also make then very flexiable when mixing and matching with diffrent systems

I am interested in the 4 channel option as it is cheaper and takes up less space.

I am currently using 2 Tecton 38.4 and the quads in question have a little more grunt.

I have been told that the Labs don't like working with the Nexo Processors. Does this statement hold any truth?

IIRC, because of the speaker level sense lines, the Nexo processors don't like any amp that has latency, generally caused by digital processing. Since the FP+ series is not one of LG's DSP amps you should be fine, but a call to Nexo is probably a good idea before you spend that kind of money. My experience with LG amps has been very good.

but you could also argue that it halves your reliability, too.

if you're worried about space, take a look at the powersoft amps.

One mans meat ... have had really bad experience with powersoft both reliability and service issues, would go for the labs.

Hello,

I run a Nexo PS 15 with LS1200 system from a Lab 10,000Q. It is more than enough....

Running one top (8 ohm) and one sub per side (6 ohm) for smaller gigs the amp output is well above what the boxes could actually take, i.e. the controllers go into clip/protect well before the amplifier approaches the clip limiters. I use the analogue controller TD mkii, and have calibrated the controller to the highest amp power setting. The controller still pulls back before the amp is near the redline....

Running a couple of PS15 cabs per channel will give each box around 1200W, which is just where they really want to be - the amp will still be well in the green (i.e. not at clip) when the controller decides to pull back, and the boxes are happy.

Each sub gets its own channel, paralleled inputs on the amp, and one channel sense-lined back to controller. As both channels are driven with a split signal from the controller, both will act the same, and if one goes near clip they will both be pulled back. The amp will push a little more into the 6 ohm load than into the ps15 top which is 8ohm, but the controller keeps everything ok. Make sure the amp is set to 26dB gain using the dip switches.

I would be very happy running the amp with 2 x 6ohm subs per channel also, total load on the channels would be 3 ohm, each sub getting around 1200W (not bothered to do proper calcs...) The controller will still pull back before the amp hits the redline! And that's with two channels running 2 x ps15 each for tops on 4 ohm loads, and 2 channels running 2x subs each on 3 ohm loads. All gong full tilt acording to the (properly calibrated) controller, and the amp still in the green.

Best amp I ever bought! The nexo system was being run with a LAB fp6400 on tops and a bridged Crown MAcrotech 2400 for each sub, and that was fine, but changing to the LAB 10kQ meant that I can now lift the amprack incl controller, spare controller, amp and patch panel, all in one hand. I'm definitely getting a couple more to run the monitor rig (more ps15s).

Very happy LAB Gruppen user.

Here is the view of someone offering me a camco:

"The controller senses that the amp has incorrect gain and goes into safe mode, where it limits the power.

I believe its due to lab gruppen’s having a different type of output stage to a Camco, and the end result is that the phase vs frequency response is not linear like a Camco.

We also noticed that our cardiod systems which work on an out of phase signal to the rear speakers, had a lot less attenuation behind the PA.

The distributor did a lot of testing and took all 8 amps back. Also despite the fact that they claim to be rated into 2 ohms, I had the sub amp cutout at 2 ohms, (4 subs / amp)

Camco is a better choice, better resale."
