Mattangles
Hi all, I am looking to purchase some type of multitrack recording device for use on shows and for rehersal purposes. I have had experience with the Mackie HDR 24/96 and because of their discontinuation they are becoming more difficult to get hold of. A few have mentioned going down the computer route. I am a PC and not a mac. I am open to suggestions on software and soundcards. Stabiliy is obviously important. If anyone has any ideas it would be good to hear from you. I am not looking to spend £1000's. More around the £500 - £1000 mark. Cheers.
Trunker
Hi, for recording purposes we have The Fostex 24 and Alesis 24HD multi-tracks. The Alesis is an excellent machine and is definately worth a look at. You can link this machine to your PC later for mix-down if required.
mackerr
I don't know how much the JoeCo Blackbox recorder is in the UK, it comes from there, it is a couple grand in the US. It is a very compact and available in several configurations with different I/O formats. Just add a USB hard drive and away you go. Mac
paulears
Alesis HD24s come up on ebay from time to time - I must admit I don't use mine much, tending to go direct to computer, with an interface - this is probably the most popular solution now. What interface and software do you use?
paulears
I'm using a Tascam 1641 at the moment, but I sometime borrow a MOTU 2408 which is similar but has some ADAT ins too, so you can use a separate audio interface or two, to get extra mics in - even something like the behringer 8000 - means 24 mic level ins for about £1100. I've been using the 1641 for many projects as it can do 8 mic level and 4 line level ins at one time, and this is enough. If I need more, that's when the HD24 gets used. TallMike
we have a Mackie SDR/2496 and it's a good machine - but the USB1.0 port is near on useless for transferring files. Talking hours! I think the Alesis is the best hardware one for the money. Otherwise, a MOTU 24/io and Cubase on a cheap PC works fine..
