Zak-McC Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hi, Just wondering if anyone knows what to expect from a interview for a Stage Management/Technical Theatre Course. Most of the schools ask for a portfolio. What should I include?
robhall3192 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 hi Zak I've just completed this process and gained RWCMD and CSSD offers. For the portfolio images of shows you have worked on first and foremost, then a careful selection of documents illustrating your planning, process and final outcomes, such as your cue sheets, props lists, stage plans etc In terms of the interview they want to know what drives you to want to be in the industry, if you have the right attitude to the degree and prepared to work your butt off at times, but also to know you are a rounded person etc. Depending where you go depends on interview style, CSSD was 10 mins in corner of a room with the head of course, whilst others were in the middle and more interviews around the edge, just presenting your piece of work which best shows your development, whereas RWCMD was 2 interviews, one with a lecture wanting to find out experience and what grinds your gears, whilst the head of course, was more personality based. Hope this helps you =]
elvenprince Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I found that for the Stage Management / Technical Theatre course, the interviewers look far more at you as a person, than your experience. By all means, experience helps, but it's not the be-all and end-all. If you can show personality, enthusiasm, an eagerness to learn, then that's going to account for a hell of a lot more than a good portfolio. If you are going to take a portfolio then, keep it short, keep it simple. Depending on what you've done; a few photographs, an LX plan and maybe some other stuff. You're only going to have a short time to sell yourself to the interviewer; you don't want to waste that time with them just looking through a book.
