ceecrb1 Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Ok I created a fixture profile for the pearl for the new sky tackers we have... First time out with them last night I found I´d done it badly (o I think I must) When I record a chase, it records fine, but I cant get the pan or tilt to "fade" just pause then "jump" to next position in the chase.. Where could Í have messed up?? I used R20 Personality Builder to create the profile.
jacet Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 What do you have the pan/tilt set to for 'channel type' in the personality, LTP or Fadeable LTP? It should be a lower case s for the latter, if it's an upper case S it'll be instant LTP which could be an issue. Also are you doing it in mode 2? hth Jacet
ceecrb1 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 er..... would that be the E to change to s? niclights Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 There is no mode 2 in chases. Lots wrong with that file. You have 16bit pan and tilt set to instant and invented a definition for the 'fine channels'. You have pan and tilt both set to be a pan attribute with the fine channels wrong too. You have shutter set as a tilt attribute (would become apparent when running shapes) and you have lamp & reset set as HTP - surely not? Try:3 61 s 5 100 1N E 1 "Pan" 128 -1 -1 0 0 L 11 100 1N E 1 "Pan fine" 128 -1 -1 3 1 s 6 100 1N F 1 "Tilt" 128 -1 -1 0 0 L 12 100 1N F 1 "Tilt fine" 128 -1 -1 10 1 L 1 100 1N B 1 "Cyan" 0 -1 -1 10 61 L 2 100 1N C 1 "Magenta" 0 -1 -1 9 61 L 3 100 1N D 1 "Yellow" 0 -1 -1 1 1 H 4 100 1N H 1 "Dimmer" 128 0 0 2 61 L 7 100 1N O 1 "Shutter" 0 -1 -1 5 61 L 8 100 1N L 1 "Focus" 128 -1 -1 8 1 L 9 100 1N T 1 "Speed 1" 0 -1 -1 2 1 L 10 100 1N 0 1 "Lamp" 0 -1 -1 11 1 L 13 100 1N 0 1 "Reset" 0 0 0 9 1 L 14 100 1N S 1 "Frost" 0 -1 -1
ceecrb1 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Like I said, I created this using the R20 library creater software..... not avolites offical.. so guessing it aint perfetc.. Will need to get on an learn how to write them from scartch.. technically "qualified" to program in java, C and C++.. so shouldnt be too rough..... haha
tokm Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Hmm, I'm surprised.. I've never had problems like this before with the personality builder. Only thing you have to watch out for is making sure you get the fine/course pan and tilt channels the right way around. Had that happen to me a few times before where I've told the 16bit part of it that the correct channels the 8bit channel and so on. BTW, if your using the trackers I think you are, have you noticed the 'dimmer' isn't much of one at all and the only way to get a black the fixture out is to put C, M, Y all at full? The dimmer only seems to dim part way so ideally you need to make a 'fade out chase' of sorts where step 1 is fade as low as you can with the dimmer channel then step 2 is an instant snap of CMY @ full. T
ceecrb1 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 This dimmer function is standard in many "sky trackers"Its probably not one your thinking of its not exactly name brand.. Really it is intensity control of the ballasts.. more like 50% to 100% much like the option to reduce intensity of macs etc...This is also how it creates the strobe function... a strobe from 50 to 100%.... This function exists in many trackers.. including the space cannon ireos 4th, and this which is from .... whoever they are. (its clear where they are from though isnt it)
jacet Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 There is no mode 2 in chases.Ah yes of course there isn't, sorry I was suffering from a lack of coffee this morning... What I meant to say was to make sure you had the crossfade set to 100% however it appears your problem was indeed personality based.
niclights Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Regarding the dimmer I assumed you deliberately set the locate value to 50% due to their power. Just in case though you would normally set this to 255. Also, you might want to change the highlight value to the same although the software might automatically override this anyway - can't remember. As for editing it's hardly the proverbial rocket science. The builder isn't really needed for .r20 types - it's only a simple text file. Details are available in the manual and syntax is listed in existing personalities.
tokm Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 Its probably not one your thinking of its not exactly name brand..Wouldn't happen to be Showtec Skytracer (yes.. tracer) 4000  ?(recognised them from your pictures - I've had the displeasure of having to use these things!) Didn't know about dimming ballasts in these things, wouldn't have thought they were that advanced. T
ceecrb1 Posted June 24, 2010 Author Posted June 24, 2010 Dimming electronic ballasts is quite standard in these things..Its just a 10v dc analogue signal that enters.. No they aint name brand at all... they chinease.. from quite a young company.. At 1000$ per fixture they really cheap, and to be honest the manufactuer seems really good and helpfull.. really interested in helping me out, I have on of their office girls in my MSN to check up on any problems, of which there hasnt been any.. The only hickup is that you need to fire them up with the dimmer dimmed or they trip rcd´s the moment they strike, but that is no hardship at all. either way, we have 64 identical fixtures, so if anybody needing lots in one place... I´m your man!
tokm Posted June 24, 2010 Posted June 24, 2010 I need 64x in London tomorrow.. What time can I expect delivery :P? Fair enough re. the ballasts.. Just its rare to see proper thought put into the chinese kit so thought this might be something they'd forget or wouldn't put in... Its nice to see them do a job properly for once. Glad to hear your getting some proper tech support too. As we all know, most of the time its a b!tch to get any real support or parts details for these chinese fixtures. T
