xme Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 Hi all, I have ordered a pair of q-roll 150 (HTI-150W) by Chauvet for 164 euros each. It's my first time I buy lighting equipment and I don't know if I made the best choice. Initially I was looking at two BL-100 LED fixtures (http://www.thomann.de/gr/stairville_matrixx_bl100_dmx_led_effect.htm) at 100 euros each, a 4.9mW laser by ADJ, two LED par 56 cans, a mini strobe by Showtec and a smoke machine. Now I have ended up, ordering two q-roll 150, the strobe and a smoke machine. Note that I have two PHILIPS Living Colors which do pretty much the same job as the par cans but are consumer products and not professional. Anyways, what do you think? Did I made the best choice?
xme Posted June 22, 2010 Author Posted June 22, 2010 Guysss I need your advice, cause maybe I can still cancel them !! thanks a lot
gyro_gearloose Posted June 22, 2010 Posted June 22, 2010 It would help to know what you want to do with them. They were discontinued by Chauvet in 2008, but of course you know this since thats what it says on Chauvets website, and you did do your research before buying didn't you?

Yes, I did a lot of research. Well, mainly I want them for my room, and maybe for house-parties, but thats all. I know they are discontinued, but since I found them in such a cheap price and their characteristics are good enough I thought that they are nicer from LED scanners

For the house party end and to stay in forum remit say small pub gigs, be a bit narrow beam in general and very bright against anything else, better at longer throw. The LED matrix things are quite good as a beam effect in a darkened room through some smo...fog ;-) More LEDs , no ongoing relamping costs can hire more if its a bigger party but you will alwats find a use and a MagicDMX dongle to give you some control.

djsam3000 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I had the q-roll 250's for a while. really amazing lights, some great effects but I only used them for mobile DJ purposes. too heavy and awkward in the end. I think nowadays you can find LED powered kit which will do the same job but you would be looking at spending a lot more money. For the price the lights are excellent. if I had the use for them I'd still have them today. complete personal preference. I'd say you need to go to a shop and see them first before you buy, same with everything else really.
xme Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 I had the q-roll 250's for a while.... DJsam3000, I have them in my hands for two weeks now, and they are great! The only problem is that they are too heavy, but I cope with that. They are really bright even though they use 150W bulbs. In total they cost me about 600 euros. I bought each one for 163 euros, a DMX controller by Showtec for 100E, 37 for smoke, 30 for a stand and I gave another 30 for cables
