matt-the-dj
hi all,im looking to relpace my ageing inefficient subs. I have two subs in mind.main use for a disco and small band use, I am looking at LD Systems PSUB 15 400 Watt 15" Sub which if my mates site is right I can get at £399 for the pair. http://www.thenoizeworks.co.uk/ecommerce/p...products_id/656 the other option is the Wharfedale EVPX15B 15" Sub Bass Speakers at £369 the pair. http://www.thenoizeworks.co.uk/ecommerce/p...products_id/347 now the question is which is better for me? the ld's have a sensitivity of 101 db but they are rated at 8ohms which means I need a new amp as the one I have will be underated, but with a higher db rating would they still be louder than the wharfdales which being 4 Ohms will match my amp better in terms of impedance but less effecient as they have a sensitivty of 99 db. with my amp the power reduces by appx 80watts rms from 8 to 4ohms, will the more effecient ld's make up for that on there sensitivity while I purchase a new amp with more power available at 8 ohms my gut feeling is go for the ld's and purchase a new amp.are both manufacturers any good? obviously I will demo both. suggestion or thoughts please. my budget is appx 400/450......so no nexo or such likeregardsmatt. ChazHS
Personally I'd go for the LD Systems cabinet, it's higher sensitivity is good, and I've only ever had good experience from LD stuff (although it was the Stinger series). You should be able to sell your amp and get a replacement, CPC 'Pulse' Amps I've heard are good for the money.
cpizey
We've had good experiences with the Wharfedale LX range (which I believe is supposed to be better spec'd than their EVP stuff). I think the LX range is discontinued now, but a search should find you 4 ohm LX15s, new, for about the same price you've seen for the EVPs. Wharfedale Pro's aftersales support has been good too. Sorry if this just confuses matters. Let your ears (and back) decide if you can demo them - bearing in mind how heavy they are to carry.

mrcog
I can't say anything on how the dlx's or any of the others sound. However by looking at the dlx's and noticing that their only manufactured from 15mm mdf, I'd be very wary... The LD systems instead are manufactured from 18mm ply which is a much better material especially for subs! James
mikey bear
Have you considered going down the DIY route? a very nice pair of reflex subs could be built within your budget. also, may I ask what amp you are using?
matt-the-dj
the amp is a 2x370 rms into 4 ohms, so its got to be replaced if I am to use the subs properly, I can use the amp short term as I go nowhere near distortion levels, I have limiters and I have got a fairly good idea of how to keep my gear running without pushing beyond its limits, ie out of the red. my gain structures are all set correctly. I dont really want to make a pair, I could do it quite easily as I have a table saw, but I have no time to spare. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on.
