gazzer1uk
Hi guys, Looking through the posts I thought I would like to check the theory!!! I am intending buying some of these " PAR 36 Pinspot Can with an Integral 6Volt 30Watt Transformer for Connecting to a 240Volt Supply" I have a showtec multi dim which has two outlets per channel. I believe I need to place a ballast on the load to prevent the transformer turning into a rectifier which casues DC current and quite quickly death to the transformer!!!! So, if I use one of these on each channel and on the second outlet of each channel have a par can (54 500 watt lamp in my case), then we should be OK??? Thanks, Gaz
musht
Use Multidims for transformer fed loads , all the time, including pinspots. Pinspot will usually dim to zero without a ghost load, wouldn`t hold them on low check for extended periods as it may overheat the transfiormer. For chasing small loads like trafo fed LEDs and fairy lights have even used a 15W Pygmy lamp covered in black wrap as the ghost load. In general it is a good idea to run a conventional load in parallell with a trafo fed load. My personal experience of Multidims over last few years is they are very robust little dimmers. gazzer1uk
Thanks Musht, So in principle, should not overly worry but a dummy load would be advantageous..... Don't stay dim for too long though!!! Cheers, Gaz
musht
.. Don't stay dim for too long though!!! Possibilty of feeding trafo a DC component at less than full which getrs them hot and bothered, fade over a few seconds fine, 10 minute sunrise cue , bit more care and ghost load kinder on everything ;-)
