Doutchy
Hey there, I've recently come into possetion of one and am wondering how I can get it to work with PC Stage? I've tried using it with Magic Q but I cant get my head around that one just yet. I plug it in and the lights just flash between each other on the USB dongle and PC stage says its unable to find it I have the feeling my laptop is just too old and knackered but was wondering if anyone has any tips I could try? smalljoshua
The Chamsys USB to DMX will only work with the MagicQ software. I recommend the tutorials on www.onstagelighting.co.uk as a good starting point to learn the software. Josh
dbuckley
And, similarly, PCStage only works with its own interfaces.
ceecrb1
The magicQ will also work with many generic USB to DMX devices, however you will only be able to pan and tilt fixtures one point at a time with a mouse click. With an official device you will be able to "grab and drag" for pan and tilt, which saves a lot of time!!! Just to clarify, the mouse pan/tilt is enabled when with a wing with encoder wheels on is connected.

ceecrb1
It could just be me, I only have used magicQ with a proper fader wing and a generic usb device, never with the official usb only..I´m sure I read somewhere.. but could be wrong. ok from the manual.. 19.8.13 Enable Mouse to control pan/tiltThis setting enables a mouse or track ball to control pan and tilt. See mouse controls pan/tilt.This setting is only supported on MagicQ consoles, and on MagicQ PC systems with a MagicQ PC Wingor MaxiWing connected. nom nom nom, humble pie! Yum! collism
Learn Magic Q - it might just change your life
nickjones
Learn FreeStyer, there is nothing to learn. :P It's a lot simpler and easier to get your head around when learning. MagicQ is a lot more powerful and really quite impressive, but I'm guessing you are not in the need for that much power, and for now should suit you just fine.Nick
themadhippy
Learn FreeStyer, there is nothing to learn.Realy,so why did my pc nearly go flying across the room in frustration when I demoed freesyler ? Stick with chamsys if you want a professional desk ,and freestyler if your names discodave.
ceecrb1
freestyler is a lightjockey clone.. In the company we own 2 offical martin usb to DMX converters for lightjockey and 1 entec pro converter (DMX in and out).We do use lightjockey a LOT of all those jobs where it is to program one or two robots for gobo placement etc, normally recorded onto a DMX recorder. Most sky tracker jobs are done with it.... as are the basic jobs in small theaters where the client just wants some led fixtures changing colour... Truth is it is very disco dave.. but very very quick to get a chase out of.. I would however, recomend sitting down to learn magicq..Mostly because its a far better move to go and learn a "desk". its more learning the mentality of prgramming a desk, I went through the same with the pearl.. Its not just THAT desk your are learning at the time, but the theory and means to make robots do as you want and get them from A to D through B and C..... Later, picking up other desks becomes far more easy. You just dont get this from LJ or freestyler.
