Matt Pengelly
Hi all, Forgive the vague nature of the post, but I'm not entirely sure whether what I'm asking for is actually possible. A band I work for are looking to have a large (40m x 30m plus) backdrop made for a show at Knebworth later this summer. Not a particularly crazy request in and of itself, but the caveat is that they are looking to have it in a metallic silver finish (which is where our usual supplier of banners and backdrops is unable to help us). Think of a sort of silver lamé material, with a black logo in the centre and you're pretty much there. Ideally it would be in one piece, printable and obviously compliant with all the usual fire safety regulations. I figured that the world of theatre might conjure up more thoughts on possible suppliers than my usual rock'n'roll contacts. Any ideas??
timtheenchanteruk
I use JC Joels for most of my drops etc, they have a huge range of cloth, and make it up to your requirements, it could cost a bit though for that size... give them a ring and see what they have. Matt Pengelly
Guys, thank you so much. I will get onto all of those places tomorrow. Cost is not too much of an issue (within reason) as it will be paid for by one of the band's sponsors. Will let you know how I get on and try to remember to whack some pics up if we get something that works.
Seano
a large (40m x 30m plus) backdrop Are you sure about the size Matt? What kind of stage are you playing on?Its hard to imagine you being able to fit more than a 30m x 15m ish backdrop on a festival main stage, or a bit smaller in many cases. Matt Pengelly
You're absolutely right, Seano. The 40m x 30m figure was plucked completely out of the air as I'm still waiting on pre-production for an accurate stage plan. 30m x 15m or thereabouts is probably more likely. Most of the stages we're playing this summer are around that sort of size. I'm really just at the 'is this idea even feasible' stage and so the adjective 'big' is probably sufficient!
