lonfire
Hi,I'm looking for a nice FX unit. Basicaly for a church setup, mainly going to be used on vocals. Want to spend around £150 ish. I've been looking at the yamaha spx 1000. Anybody got any opinions on that? I've looked on the net and found minimal reviews on it (and minimal info on blueroom also).. What about lexicon mpx 200/500/550? I got so much good info on my post about compressors (went with DBX 166xl's in the end!), now its time to get a reasonable FX processors.. Bobbsy
The SPX1000 is one of my favourite effects units--nice sounding, easy to use, good presets and (though not a concern for you) quite rider friendly. If you get one in good shape, they tend to go on forever. You're probably not finding many online reviews because they've been around for years. I'm less keen on Lexicon effects--but I know that's just me because they're also a very common and popular unit. As you start listening to effects you'll find how subjective opinions can be. I find Lexicon 'verbs a bit metallic to my ears--but enough people swear by them that I have to accept that "it's not the Lexicon, it's me" to paraphrase the old relationship cliche! A third effects unit to consider would be TC Electronic. They're all good but one you might particularly look out for is the M-One XL. It's another nice sounding unit, again easy to use and a good reputation for reliability. Bob
Dave SA
+1 for the M-one XL (or the jack version - M-one) I think in your situation it's versatility will shine through. It also tends to sound 'right' without much tweaking.
Doug Siddons
+1 for the SPX100 but you might save some money getting a SPX90 just as good in my opinion.

Rob_Beech
Very good price indeed for a 1000. You won't go far wrong with that. I'll also add a further thumbs up to the service / spares area of Yamaha. Absolutely fantastic people.
TimmyP1955
The 90 is mighty long in the tooth. The 990 is no youngster, but it does have some good sounds. Not what I'd want for an overall unit though. How does the 1000 compare to what's in the LS9? Those verbs have not impressed me much. The Lexi 500 and 500 sound pretty good, as does (with some mellowing) the TC M-One (though I hate that the two engines settings have to be saved and recalled as a set). I was never really happy until I got my Kurzweil Rumour. I liked it so much I sold it to a friend (who still has it) and got its big brother the KSP8. Dunno how common they are on your side though.
