Jem ZR12-DMX

Hello

I have 2 Jem ZR12-DMX smoke machines which do not pre heat. When the power is on and the controller is plug in the red LED should light up to say its pre heating and its not. The machines work properly when you hold down the test button as the red light appears and after about 7 minutes, smoke comes out.

I have opened the controller up and done a continuity test on the pins and all seems fine. I’m not sure if the controller is at fault or the PCB in the smoke machine. I'm now out of my depth with the electronics and wondered if anyone can help.

Thanks

It is the DMX pcb inside the remote control unit.

it is not supplying the 1.5V (and above) required for the machine to recognise that it has a remote plugged in.

Pressing the button 'spikes' this voltage to approx 10.5V which provides the necessary 1.5V (and above) which allows the machine to heat for the length of time you are pressing the button...If you let go...it will stop....If you keep it held, it will fire the machine as soon as the green light comes on to say it is ready.

Try connecting a DMX source set above 20% output.

This pcb is a simple DMX to 0-10V convertor....

If the DMX does not respond, replace the pcb...P/N: 62021009

If it's the same JEM DMX interface that I have for my old TechnoFog, the output is normally 1.5-10V for 0-100%. I.e the preheat voltage is built into the minimum output voltage of the interface. I do also have an aftermarket DMX interface that does need to be at 15% before it will work, but that was built for something else (a projector dowser I think)

I also have a ZR12 DMX but is missing the whole DMX module that sits in the gap on the right. Anyone know if it is possible to get a replacement or have a pinnout of the connector that is at the bottom of the tray.

Thanks
