bigbert Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hi I've had, what I think is a great, idea and I was wondering if anyone has tried this is the past or they can see any problems which may arise. so heres my idea. I was planing to use a 15m 20 core scart cable to send VGA to a projector along with 5 channels of Control data to blank, freeze the projector etc. This would allow me to operate sound and visuals at the same time. Any thoughts would be Appreciated Ber
JazzAV Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 When you say 'five channels of control data' wouldn't you just put a mini-jack on the end and use the remote? or am I missing something
bigbert Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 When you say 'five channels of control data' wouldn't you just put a mini-jack on the end and use the remote? or am I missing something The projector uses a 9 pin RS232 port where 5 of the pins are used. I was proposing to use 15pins of the Scart for the VGA and the remaining 5 to go to the RS232 Control port

I was proposing to use 15pins of the Scart for the VGA and the remaining 5 to go to the RS232 Control port you can control the unit over rs232 with single pair of wires connected to ground and Rx, if you want feedback from the unit, you need to wire up the TX as well, but if you are telling the projector what to do rather than asking what its doing, its not needed. Mind you youd have to like soldering to wire a multicore up to a Dsub 9 and 15 at each end, and its unlikely youd do as good a job as someone in the far eastern cheapo vga factory, so id vote for a 15m vga off the shelf and a length of data cable / mic cable or similar with earth on 5 and pins 2 and 3 crossed over which shouldnt tax the soldering skills to much...
tr7ster Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Maybe think of using something like this? Just snip the 3.5mm jacks off and replace as necessary. Ben
henny Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Hi if 10m will do why not get http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/level5/module.j...=cpc/525410.xml and swap the mini jacks for a Dsub
