cfmonk Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Just heard on QI that ferrets have been used recently at events to pull cables through tubes. Anybody seen or heard of this?
musht Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Sometimes QI is too clever for its own good, rest of time its just irritating http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics...ural-areas.html Look at date....
Ynot Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Just heard on QI that ferrets have been used recently at events to pull cables through tubes. Anybody seen or heard of this?In my neck o' the woods we use small children....
Bobbsy Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I've never had to use a ferret myself but back in the 1980s our company needed some vision circuits laid from an existing building to a site a couple of blocks away. This was back in the days when BT had a monopoly on this kind of thing--they laid in ducts with access points at each corner, then brought in a ferret to pull in the draw ropes. It was actually fun to watch. ...and the ferret was the hardest working member of the BT crew! Bob
WiLL Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I knew a chap who used to work for a phone company who said that they had a man with a ferret on retainer for the more tricky cable runs. I think the April fools day thing is only partly a hoax (although I love the little hi-vis they made for the ferret with vodafone written on it.

Andrew C Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Just try to STOP a cat getting into a hole like that. I've tried explaining what curiosity did...
Samwise Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I had heard they were used on aircraft to pull cable through the trickier bits, one of the problems they had were the ferrets falling asleep halfway through though... I'm sure I heard that on QI actually. Sam.
