jexjexjex Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hi All Does anyone have experience of the fairly new "Element" desks from ETC and any info on prices? I'm looking to buy a desk that's going to be able to handle all the local venues that I'm in and out of, partly because I'm fed up with getting to a venue and discovering that someone's bween mucking about and left a desk unusable (Seems to happen in schools) and partly because I can never remember which desk is at which venue. There's are a mix of desks of various ages and flavours in most of "my" schools and halls, so bringing in my own thing would also give me some kind of consistency. There would also be a bit of local dry hire work for a reasonable size desk. I thought about the Element as, being brought up on Strand, it seems to be very Strandish in its programing and it also seems flexible in terms of working from a GO button or working live with plenty of submasters. I don't often use movers, but it seems as though it could handle a few of thoese if needs be. I've looked at the ETC site and at a presentation on another forum and I think this is the way I'd like to jump, but I'm just looking for other thoughts and opinions before I get a demo and, possibly, part with cash.
Nick LX Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Although technically I'm trained on the Eos, the Element is pretty similar, and I've programmed two shows on it. One of the best things is the free training that ETC offer. But in terms of the desk it is basically the newer version of the ETC Express (if you've ever used one of them?). Everything is simply laid out, there is a lot of flexibility in terms of submasters/faders and you could probably pick it up without training. Note: I'm probably a bit biased as I've only every used ETC desks in the theatre. I seem to remember from training that the syntax is exactly the same as Strand- maybe someone else knows.
