rooftop Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Just out of interest; does a working Strand SP60 (3-preset, 60 channel) have any value or is it scrap value only?
Ynot Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Unlikely.I got NO interest at all when we got rid of ours some years ago.
civic1975 Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Blast from the past! We had one in the Civic Centre in Aylesbury with one of the first sets of T spots. My first job was fitting and connecting up in 12 colour changers on the T spots. We also had the exploding lamp problem - Phillips and Thorn. Stuart
paulears Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 We had one hanging around for years - worked perfectly and I offered to give it away on here - nobody thought it worth the fuel to collect and it was skipped. Lots of people, me included, loved them - but as for wanting one now???
Ynot Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 When I first moved over to my current venue, the SP60 with original STM dimmers had pride of place in our control room.In fact, here's a late 70s or early 80s pic of the wee beastie...http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j40/Ynot_01/CR-2.jpg In them days, the techs used to be a tad smarter!! (E2A - no that is NOT me in the pic!)
Dmills Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Might be worth seeing if any audio types might want the quadrant faders? They will be linear but that is easily fixed with a VCA or by adding a suitably chosen resistor from one end of the thing to the wiper. Try the prodigy pro forums or maybe the REP forums on prosoundweb for possible takers. Regards, Dan.
rooftop Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Any idea what an SP60 plus 60 ways of STM dimming would have cost back in the day? Compare with today, 3x24ch Chillis is about £6k, plus a "basic" desk - say £1k?
gareth Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 Hmm, I think the old SP60 from our studio theatre might still be lurking underneath a staircase at the far end of the building ...
Tomo Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 In them days, the techs used to be a tad smarter!!Don't know about that! When I worked on the cruise ships I would operate the shows in a my dinner suit* for formal nights, and jacket, shirt and tie otherwise. *Black shirt and black bow tie, of course.
