Hi, im new here, and was wondering whether someone could tell me how to patch coloured scroller fixtures to an avolite pearl desk? anyhelp would be appreciated. thanks

Depends on the scroller as they can have different numbers of control channels/modes.

But principle is to patch a scroller fixture with a pending dimmer. For example there is a generic colour scroller fixture that has one channel for colour and one pending dimmer channel. After patching the fixture you patch a dimmer on top.

Most of the scrollers I have seen just plug into a dimmer channel,

And then that dimmer channels fader position dictates the color selected.

That would make the colour HTP which is far from ideal. It should be an LTP attribute.

Most scrollers I've come across (stop me if I'm wrong...) should have a power supply that they connect to via XLR (4 pin). The power supply should have DMX.

But you should know this as you want to patch them (sorry I'm tired and should be sleeping).

Do you have the manual? If so it should have a breakdown on addressing and how many channels (if more than 1) it takes up and what they do.

If so it will probably have a fixture profile so you can patch it as a fixture... Allowing you to change from 1 colour to another with no overlap. If not, I guess it's a case of patching as a dimmer and programming it the old fashioned way (if you can sort out the HTP/LTP problem described above).

(EDIT: hTp not hRp whatever that is )

Not wanting to go too far off topic but the Gelstream scrollers actually accept power via an IEC input and then have an IEC output for chaining several together. They accept 5 pin XLR for their DMX.

However, as Nick said, patch the scroller and then patch a dimmer channel over the top. This means that you can control the colour of the scroller by selecting it with the blue sop button, clicking colour and then using the wheel to select a colour. You can then push the fader up to control the intensity.

Some scrollers have specific personalities written for them (such as the Chroma Q Cascades) but you can always use a generic scroller personality.

hi

I use a peral expert and I have found two ways to do it, depends on how you programme.

1 - patch as a dimmer then colours will work on percentages of the dimmer(handle)

2 - patch it in as a generic colour scroller - found in the fixture library under unknown generics. this way you can select the fixture then colour from the buttons on right hand side and wheel through colours, also set up colour palettes if you prefer for ease.

If possible, you should avoid patching a scroller as a dimmer channel, as unless you are using Titan, you cannot record palettes for dimmers. This would mean you have to find each colour manually every time. You may also run into difficulty with it being HTP, as Nic points out, when changing colours in different memories.

There are personalities for most scrollers in our library, or could patch it as a generic scroller or LTP channel.

I was gonna say surely there is a personality file for the scroller, or one that matches the channels/attributes you want to use? If not check the avolites website for the file in the personalities section. Worst comes to worst you could also write yourself a personality, the manual for the console will tell you how. Avo manuals are good like that!
