Garrettgb
So we have a Strand 520 and a 300 here (and the groans ring out all around).Honestly, I love the 520, it's the perfect solution for the kinds of shows that happen on our mainstage. The 300, well, we all know about the sticky console keys and limited hard drive space but we've worked around that sufficiently. However a few months ago it started having issues with pausing or freezing. Figuring that it was probably a software issue I downloaded the genius pro v.2.8.6 software from http://www.strandlighting.com/clientupload...W_v2.8.6_C3.zip I first installed from inside the existing OS from the archive screen (soft, load, soft load, etc.) and the problems seemed to persist. So, I thought I'd be really really clever and format the hard drive, reinstall DOS 6.22 and the GeniusPro software from scratch. It all went on smoothly and the freezing seems to have stopped.. however.. it seems the console is now limited to 50 intensity channels and 50 attribute channels. I know it had 300 intensity channels before, not sure about attribute channels (we don't use movers much in our studio).I tried loading our old v.2.8.5 disc (from inside the existing OS setup only, so far) but nothing changed.I figure this must be some kind of licensing thing, but can't find a way yet to verify we own the console genuinely. Has anyone encountered this before? Anyone have a solution? 50 channels is...a bit crippling...hmm..thanks as always,-Garrett
simschr
Formatting the hard disk would have removed the STRAND.PAS file which contains all of your channels/software. Without it you're limited to the basic 50/50. Chris
Garrettgb
Oh, that's good news I think. I have an old diskette with our strand.pas file on it.. can I just, copy that to a directory and it will give allowances the next time it boots?
GridGirl
Either that or you'll need an unlock code which will give you your channels back - have a search in the documentation that came with the desk, if you still have it!!

Garrettgb
it seems that was the .pas file for our 520. well.. whoops.I'll look around in the documentation and see if it's around anywhere. While I'm here, another oddity:used to be that when shutting down the desk through the report screen the console would shut its own power off. Now, instead, the console stays on and goes to a dos prompt. I've tried pressing the big green soft-power button, or holding it in for 10 seconds, but the only way it shuts down seems to be with unplugging. Not very pleasant. Is there a function somewhere, or possibly a line in the autoexec.bat or something that would restore its shutdownability?

Where did you purchase the desk from? They may be able to look back at past records and get confirmation of what you paid for.Alternatively you may well still be able to get the file direct from Strand. I think they still hold the records of what desk (with the serial number) was sold with what setup - which does make sense as there are still a LOT of old 300 and 500 series out there needing support. There are one or two Strand tech reps here on the BR so one may well be able to assist.
