I use my touchscreen laptop as controlsurface to drive Maqicq PC in the executor mode incombination with a PC wing. It would be great to be able to use a ipad instead...

Does anybody know if Chamsys is making a Magicq iPad app?

Maybe if you all bought phones* where distributing a piece of software for them didn't require some lackie to take several weeks to look at it, you would have seen it by now ;-)

* - for clarification:

iPad = big iPhone

iPad != tablet pc

The iPad has a USB connection, but USB uses a master/slave configuration and the iPad is a slave device. The PC wing/ USB=>DMX converter is also a slave device, and in a USB network, slave/slave communication is not possible.

iirc, setting a device to be master/slave is something done by the hardware. So it would appear impossible to connect another slave device to the iPad for the reason stated above.

There are supplements to the USB2.0 specification that permit devices to be either a slave or a host depending on what they are connected to.

However, I see no reason why you need a wing. It's for remote control. Surely the whole point is to not connect anything?!

I guess it's with the incentive that the riggers remote is only available to those who purchase some form of hardware from Chamsys; rather than just giving it away completely free. Whether the new "Magic DMX" is also included as being a wing I do not know, but that's the reason I'd say you need a wing connected.

Whatever you need to make it functional would be on another device, no? As I see it this is something to remotely control parts of the software on such a device by pairing with it wirelessly.

Ah, I didn't know that. So I assume that it's specified by the firmware of the device? You learn something new every day... ;)

The MagicDMX device doesn't fall under the category of our USB Wings or USB Interfaces which enable the remote control features in MagicQ. You will need at least one of the USB Wing or USB Interfaces connected, rather than a MagicDMX device to be able to use the remote.

The app also only acts as a remote to control another version of MagicQ, rather than allowing you to run MagicQ from the iPad natively. Steve Jobs doesn't think that his devices can run something so simple as Flash, so I doubt that they'd cope with the processing power required by MagicQ!

....Maybe if they'd have stuck a proper operating system on the device, rather than making it a big phone, then you'd be able to connect your wing to it like a proper tablet PC. But hey ho! Complaints to sjobs@apple.com ;)
