paulears Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Auction info If you want to smile, have a look here. The starting prices they want for the kit are amazing - vastly overpriced before a bid gets placed. I cannot see anything very exciting, but others might?
Joe Bleasdale Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 If the PixelPar's are in good condition they are fairly priced and the DMX splitter for £50 seems a bargain! Thanks for the link Paul.
Yorkie Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Can anyone who knows about Go Dove auctions advise on what the costs are apart from the hammer price? From what I can tell there's VAT but I don't know what else.

paulears Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Buyers premium, and VAT - and it's ALWAYS best to read the details properly. I bid on some BBC kit a while ago, studios closing down. I didn't win anything I bid on, bar one small item - a Denon MD recorder. I paid the bill, very pleased with myself, and the email arrived saying your payment has cleared, you have 7 days to collect the equipment. After this date, a storage fee will be charged. The equipment is in Studio 3, BBC GLASGOW! Er, I missed that bit! (Thanks went to Bruce for collecting it for me!) The other thing to watch is that the pictures and/or descriptions may be wrong. From time to time, the get models wrong, or sometimes mis-identify items. I saw a really expensive Thompson video switcher panel described in a way that made you think it was the actual switcher - it was just the control panel and the electronics crate was a separate item in the sale described as a Thompson video rack. One without the other is scrap! However it sometimes works the other way - a friend bought a studio pantograph set from one of the London auctions - expecting 1. When he got there, it was the complete SET - he had to hire a LWB sprinter to get his treasure home. he kept two, sold the other twenty odd on eBay.
Paul J Need Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Indeed, been following this from the outset and as you say - amazing start prices for the bids. Funny what people will pay eh? Often more expensive for this sort of stuff than buying new - cable is a prime example. The Kryptons are going for more than we're selling a pair of Entours for......... hey how :D
Pete McCrea Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I was keeping the Auction Quiet on the hope of maybe getting some odds and ends at a reasonable rate.... then I looked at the starting prices. As mentioned, hammer Price +16% +17.5%, so by the time you add that some stuff is really over priced.
JDLX Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Keeping my eye on some of the stuff but it's easy to get carried away at auction. I have bought stuff on various auctions on dovebid before and some of stuff I have ended up only paying £40 cheaper than new once you add the buyers premium and VAT!
Stuart91 Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 The other thing to watch is that the pictures and/or descriptions may be wrong. From time to time, the get models wrong, or sometimes mis-identify items. My favourite auction story is the guy I saw who bid quite a high price for a lot described as "Photoshop software", only to find that it was version 2.0, and what's more, the box was empty. The look on his face as he discovered this was priceless!
bjkered Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Also try and visit some the KIT looks OK in the pictures but when you look at in real life , It is in very Poor condition, been around the block a few times. I never buy with out a visit especially as the prices are never bargin basement . Now given up on auctions as prefer to buy new and with warrantee etc and a come back on the supplier which you do not get at an auction

No, as an ebay groupie :P I found the starting prices for this auction totally in fantasy land, considering the additional fees applied to the winning bidder.
