The marketing blurb for the entour mentions variable fan control, where is it?

(if it is variable, anyone know how low it can be safely set to in an air-con'd room?)

have you looked in the menu? I think it just says fan...

I don't have one to look at right now, I just tried to look it up in the manual but could not see any fan control listed.

As far as I'm aware they don't have manually controllable fans - but the speed does vary according to the temperature of the fixture.

I've got one sitting here and I can't find a fan option on the fixture or in the manual

That's what I thought. I had just been browsing the Martin brochures and spotted

"The Entour includes two additional features: an easily accessible, multi-position tilt lock eases handling when moved on a frequent basis, and a convenient, low noise operation mode is included for noise sensitive studio environments."

The Entours do have variable Fan speed, the Kryptons do not. Go to the UTIL menu (you will have to hold down enter for a few seconds before it lets you in) scroll to FANS and select REG. This puts the fans into regulated mode which means the fans will run quieter and will ramp up according to heat of the fixture.

Alternatively you could put the fixture in STUDIO mode which will regulate the fans and slow all of the effects motors to make the whole operation of the fixture quieter.

The 250 wash contains a studio mode (STUD in the menu) which you can turn on that has some different on the noise but wont exactly make it silent. This is not on the Entours however! The entour and kryptons, although it says variable fan control on the spec on the website I think rossmck is correct in saying they do it themselves.

According to the manuals the FANS setting isnt available on the 250s, and Ive never seen it there myself on our ones!

  • Flashing cursor when entering the ADDR menu
  • Implemented jump to ch. 1 using "UP" + "ENTER" keys in ADDR menu

  • All menu wrap-around implemented
  • ...and a lot of other minor adjustments/improvments.

The user manual is written for both the MAC 250 Entour and the MAC 250 Krypton, above is the software update notes for version 1.5.0 when studio mode was added, as part Studio mode the fans regualte. This software update was released to coincide with the release of the MAC 250 Wash, the idea being that both fixtures are more likely to be used in a "studio" environment. If your Entours do not have studio mode I would have a look at the software version as it should be there. The Kryptons definately do not have any form of Studio mode
