Ruth Moore Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Hello, I've recently been told about this amazing stage blood: It comes in two completely clear liquids which only turn red when they come into contact with each other. Video demonstration available here: http://www.rogergeorge.com/expendables/items/eteabb/ if anyone's interested. I was wondering if anyone had heard of a company that stocked it in the UK? I could get it sent over from america but was hoping to keep my shipping costs down. Thanks
w/robe Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 You could try Davenports in Charring Cross and Charles Fox in Covent Garden to cover both magic and make up. They are both staffed with good people and, even if they don't have it, they may know of a supplier.
WiLL Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Please do post if you find a supplier, this looks a fantastic product, potentially far simpler than the old 'blood-pumping' knives etc.
expertwitness Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 Ruth Check out the American version of the COSHH data sheet for this product. Not for feighnt hearted, and I don't think there's a senior manager or H&S officer anywhere in this country that would sanction the use of such products, after reading your risk assessment for using it. http://www.rogergeorge.com/pdf/eteabb.pdf
rossmck Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 This is a reasonably well known chemistry demonstration... "A Blood" is a dilute Potassium Thiocyanate solution and "B Blood" is a dilute solution of Iron (III) Chloride See http://www.elmhurst.edu/~chm/demos/magicwound2.htm Still not sure I'd want to be using those chemicals regularly on a stage anything that can produce cyanide gas when heated is a bad idea...
Ruth Moore Posted May 12, 2010 Author Posted May 12, 2010 HI guys, Thanks for your comments. I think I found it! Davenports really does have everything, doesn't it? Trevor duffy magic blood, found here: http://www.davenportsmagic.co.uk/cgi-bin/s...tml%23a877#a877 We've also bought some Kryolan's powder blood from Screen Face:http://www.screenface.com/NewProdDets.asp?Products_Action=Find('Productid','2341')&Products_Position=FIL%3ASubCategory+%3D+%27Blood+%26+Gore%27ORD%3AABS%3A24KEY%3A2341PAR%3A Just for fun Ruth
ojc123 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 Still not sure I'd want to be using those chemicals regularly on a stage anything that can produce cyanide gas when heated is a bad idea... It's not that bad. Both solutions are very dilute. Risk assessment here. The risk is with the solids or concentrated solutions. Lowest lethal dose is 80mg/kg (0.08g/kg) taken orally. This demonstration uses 0.1g for a 70kg (ish) person (0,0014 g/kg) not taken orally and not really coming in too much contact. As long as you kept it away from strong acids the risk of making cyanide gas with this solution is infinitessimal. I'd live with the risk with a few control measures. The data sheets referred to by expertwitness refer to the pure substance not to the dilute solution. A properly put together RISK ASSESSMENT (not just a MSDS for the pure products) would get past a H&S manager. I have used this mix on stage with controls in place. Impressive and safe. Local Authority H&S were perfectly happy with my risk assessment. It'd reduce the risk to use other products but this really isn't that dangerous.
