big venue lighting 101?

Hello everyone, first time posting here I´m a vj from spain.

I would like it if someone please gave me or pointed me to some beginner´s tips about designing a light and visual setup for a big venue. I´ve been given the assignment to do this for a small/medium sized festival,with an outdoor and an indoor stage with mostly djs and a couple of live acts, around 100m x 50 m big each, and while I can get around the projector side of things, I have little idea about the light side of things - DMX control, stage light and club light. I will outsource a bunch of this work, but I want to know as much as possible about it so I can plan it properly. My knowledge in that area is limited to using various DMX controllers at clubs Ive worked - I have some idea of what the light needs to be like but its not knee deep.

Im sorry if this has been asked before - searching here and in google has brought a lot of useful information, but its also overwhelming . Id just like some directions to get started.

presumably your going to have to get someone who knows what there doing (ie from the hire company) to put it all in and op it? Why not ask local LDs and hire companys to design what they would do with the available budget and use the ones you like
