artstech Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Hi there, I've just started in a venue where the 'new' desk is a strand 200 series.as I am the only tech there, its location for control isn't too handy for selecting channels when focusing. (leave the space, 3flights of stairs and enter control) :P My question is this, Does any one know of a low budget, simple way of connecting the system so that I can control it from an app on my iphone??? (and could you suggest a suitable app aswell) I have searched but cannot seem to find anything that suggest this matching my circumstances.(And if there is, I have over looked it and apologise in advance.
pritch Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Is there a computer of some description available? Perhaps the MagicDMX thread might yield some answers if there is?http://www.blue-room.org.uk/index.php?showtopic=40679
boatman Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 jamtastic has a similar problem. See this thread for a variety of solutions.
gareth Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 Make a long DMX cable, connect it to where the desk normally connects to in the control room, throw the other end out into the space, and take the desk down there with you - it's only tiny and doesn't need a monitor or any other external bits. Simples.
Ynot Posted May 6, 2010 Posted May 6, 2010 What Gareth said. in fact, if this is all the venue has, then it may well pay you/them to get a stage-side DMX line run in permanently - ie socket box on each end, and a jumper cable at the control room end so it's a simple matter just to take desk down and plug in each time.
