Jamtastic3
Hi BR, Yes, I've had a search through the threads, but I thought with these topics it's just easier to ask. Looking for a cheap desk, 19 inch style, no more than 200 DMX channels needed, BUT I'm looking for a desk that has some sort of effects engine for movers (simple circles, waves etc) that I can bring up from submasters for instant moving 'looks'. I also have 12 normal pars to control too. There's lots of of those badged 19 inch desks that have 192 DMX channels, 12 fixtures, 6 chases etc, but they don't seem to have effects engines. And I'm also not looking at the Behringer LC2412 after viewing lots of negative comments! So anything you can think of would be great - second hand Fat Frog's, Masterpiece's etc are just overkill, expensive and too big. Thanks guys! sessiondrummer
Its hard to think without knowing what budget you have. Have you thought about p.c. based rather than a desk? The truth is that the desks you have listed are the cheaper ones that do everything you want. You could always get the Chamsys magic Q software (free) on a laptop with a separate mini wing for playbacks? (Sorry to regulars for plugging Chamsys again) http://www.chamsys.co.uk/default.asp?p=pcwingproducts.asp Ben
niclights
I wonder if some sort of replay unit might be suitable? I don't have any particular suggestions & they may still be too expensive but I'm sure there are a number of this sort of device where you can use a console to create the looks and just record the DMX output. Don Allen
There are Scanner controller desks in 19 inch rack mout format that do similar to what you want, but they have limited numbers of channels for the scanners and usually 8 conventional channels. Some have effects engines built in. The NEW Chauvet Obey 40 DMX Rack Mount Light Controller might be what you are looking for ? Ashley R
I would recommend a Studio Due Control 5. 19" Rack mountable, has a small inbuilt fixture library with the capacity to create 8 custom fixture profiles, joystick for pan/tilt, and a built in basic shapes generator RRP's in Australia for $1600 but goes for as low as $1200 without pulling any strings or discounts
Jamtastic3
Thanks for the replies but a couple of the desks here are not what I'm looking for. Don Allen: Had a look at the manual to the Obey and there is no effects engine unfortunately. Ashley R: My budget is really between 100 and 300 pounds so the Studio Due controller is out of the question.
JonM
And I'm also not looking at the Behringer LC2412 after viewing lots of negative comments! I wouldn't exclude it because it has negative comments, as far as I know all bugs with the desk are fixed with the latest firmware. You should not get it because it is not meant for movers. It's a great desk for generics considering the price and features.
greenalien
I know you say the Masterpiece is too expensive and 'overkill', but it's not unusual for used examples of the Masterpiece 216 to crop up on Ebay for around £300 - just a matter of luck how many others are bidding against you - and they are very versatile desks, with great chase generator software that will let you automate a lot of movement. A Masterpiece 108 is usually cheaper, but may not have the channels you need. You could also consider buying a used Pulsar Replay 216 - usually around £150 - £200 each on Ebay - and then getting someone with a Masterpiece desk to program it for you - or hire a desk and do it yourself. MP216 currently on Ebay And another Like buses, they seem to come along in threes!
Tomo
Ashley R: My budget is really between 100 and 300 pounds so the Studio Due controller is out of the question. At that budget, you are not going to find anything brand new.Chamsys MagicQ comes closest, if you already have the PC and are happy with PC-based control. The only way you'll find a 'hardware' moving-light console anywhere near that price is second-hand.

Ashley R
Ashley R: My budget is really between 100 and 300 pounds so the Studio Due controller is out of the question. In my perspective when a Acme Dynamo 250 costs about 90 pounds and the same thing costs $250+ AUD here so that would make your budget $250-$700AUD approximately. :P you are not really going to find much at that kind of price point new unless you know some people. seeing that I just picked up a Zero 88 Elara 12/24 console condition unknown (no PSU to test with) for $41 AUD anythings possible . Now fingers crossed the thing works and ill have myself a new console
