LX-Dave
Hi all, I am running a show next week, and the tech rehearsal is on saturday, so any help is appreciated. I have a small fogger, which has a remote control run via IEC, and I am hoping to extend the reach of the control cable if possible. the remote is fitted with a male IEC connector, which connects into the female connector on the fogger. I know from practice that the length can be extended with an IEC female>male extension chord, however, I am hoping to make the cable longer than this, and do not have time to get a custom extension made up. what I am proposing is to use a couple of jumpers, to create it like this.... Fogger (female) < MaleIEC-UK3pinsocket jumper cable < standard 1-gang mains extension cable < 13A to IECfemale kettle lead < IEC male remote control. Would this work? or is there some issue with the fuses in the extension chord or something? I believe the remote works as a simple switch, with a mains voltage through it, and simple bridges the connections. if this is the case, there should not be an issue of cable run. Is this a good idea? Any help appreciated. Lx-Dave
KevinE
Not a good idea, the 3-pin remote lead on the smoke machine is not wired L-N-E like a normal mains lead, you might find you get nasty effects like the screws on the extension reel socket going live or something silly. Just dip into your pocket and make up a proper extension using the proper connectors to the appropriate length. Even a 50m reel of the right cable isnt going to break the bank.
