The Right Light Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Hey guys, so this may have been posted before but couldn't find it anywhere and I looked! My problem is this: I have 2 Martin MAC 250 Kryptons. One works great and the other keeps flashing a "HOT" error message about 10 seconds after it powers up. The lamp hasn't even struck so the fixture is definitely not hot at all. I made sure the software is current so I'm fairly certain it's an electrical issue probably where the wires lead from the yoke to the base of the fixture. I need to know where I can find some type of step by step info on fixing this myself. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Adam
DRG Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 First thing I would look at is the thermal sensor in the head as being faulty.
law99 Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 Hi Adam, I've seen this with a few of them. More than likely the head thermal sensor. Take the modules out, let the head tilt upwards. Now you should see a small PCB with a sensor on the silver base area, infront of the metal lamp cover. This is prone to getting a dry solder joint, not being plugged in or having the cables snapped going to it. Check that first. If not have a look at the following below. Check the light sensor. Its on the side of the metal fan case. Take the modules out and you can see if easier. Sometimes, due to the heat around this area, there becomes a dry joint on the solder. Or the cable gets caught with people taking the modules in or out and snaps the 2 cables going to it. Another thing to check is where the HV (High Voltage) cables go to your thermal fuse, in older models this was located near the lamp and the cables could 'melt' and short! Dont ask me how, but I've had to upgrade at least 4 to the newer revision (where the sensor is ontop of the metal fan holder). Then again, my units have done over 15,000 hours... so are older units and have been well maintained Good luck! Law
