cpizey Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I'm looking for a couple of gooseneck mic stands that I can fix by jamming the base between a guitar amp head and the 4x12 the amp sits on. Any recommendations? I can find plain gooseneck stands, but really I'm after something that has a plate or a strip as its base. Surprised they don't seem easy to find as I would have thought there's quite a lot of demand for this sort of thing. I could resort to making something I suppose. Thanks!
mervaka Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 you're probably better off with a Z bar. http://www.performanceaudio.com/cgi/produc...roducts_id=5469
Alec Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 you're probably better off with a Z bar. Agreed, but are there *any* UK stockists? Mic amping has always been a problem crying out for a better answer than a low boom stand. Can't believe that there are no other decent solutions out there.
kerry davies Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 My brain can't be fully charged today. Why would you want a mic physically attached to a speaker cab? I'm not a humhead so there may be something I need to learn.

MarkPAman Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 On a small stage, even a little stand takes up valuable space. Get a bit of ply wood, drill a hole & paint it black. Use a 3/8 bolt & a 3/8 - 5/8 adaptor thingy (there's probably one in your pocket!) & some big washers & attach your gooseneck. These bits of wood will also (if you make them the right size) go through the handles of many combo amps.

David Lee Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I think Kerry was asking why you would want to attach the mic to the amp speaker combo rather than the standard mic stand in front of the cabinet. MarkPAman sums that one up quite nicely. (I am fairly sure Kerry understands why you would mic up a guitar amp.)
Matthew Robinson Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Having re-read the post, that is probably the conclusion I'd have come to actually
techywhizz Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 another option is the audix cab grabber.. clicky Seems to work really well...
MarkusA Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Maybe this is something that can be easily modified to suit your needs?http://www.ampclamps.com/

I can guarantee there won't be one in my pocket, or anywhere else, infact I can guarantee that there won't be one within 8 miles of me when I need one because some idiot has taken a clip off a stand without the thread adaptor. 5/8 threads should be BANNED. Does ANYONE make a GOOD mic clip with just a 3/8 thread on? not a silly adaptor. I don't own any stands with 5/8 and if I did I'd melt them down whilst dancing around them.
mervaka Posted April 16, 2010 Posted April 16, 2010 I've seen some t-bone mics with a 3/8 thread behind a 5/8 thread. no ring necessary (she said!) just screw in whatever you've got! if only more manufacturers did this.
cpizey Posted April 16, 2010 Author Posted April 16, 2010 Thanks everybody - some great options here, some a little pricey. I'll try the plywood/bolt solution - my DIY skills should be just about up to that. Cheers!
