Mark M Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Hired a couple of scanners for a gig on Sat night and just setting them up in the garage now. Ive ended up with one MX1 and one MX4 somehow but the problem is on both anyway so I dont think its linked. Ok, here goes... I cant get them to light up :P It works fine in a visualiser just not in real life!! The bulbs are working in stand alone mode, they have the correct DMX addresses as the pan tilt works as they are currently running through an fx in MagicQ But for the life of me I cant get any lightoutput ;) Any ideas? Do I need to check the DMX mode? Ive got the manual off the martin website and it says to check the jumpers? Would that be the case? Dont want to go dismantling them if thats definately not the case. Thanks in advance for all your kind help :P A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. Ok, I have partial success. By selecting the MX4 and going to add fx and selecting one with a * next to it and then selcting shutter I can get some light!! How do I get the shutter just to stay open though?? Ive tried intensity but that doesnt allow you to mocve the fader. Still no breakthrough with the MX1 sadly
Ynot Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 First things first - the first thing in ANY DMX issue is to check with a cable reversal. That's likely the answer to about 95% of problems with 3-pin DMX lines.Especially if both fixtures are exhibiting the same 'fault'
paulears Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Waggle the gobo channel, if memory serves, the gobo position that is DMX value zero is a blank, for no output, so position 1 will be the open setting.

Erm, I cant seem to find the gobo button on MagicQ and I dont have the manual to hand! Any tips? Will d/l the manual now however. A concurrent post has been automatically merged from this point on. I have found the gobo section!! Was under BEAM, not gobo as I was looking for! However, I could see the gobos changing but there was little to no light!! I went back to patch and clicked locate and with a hallelujah light appeared. What am I missing programming wise?
thelxbloke Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 being as you're getting light out if you give the shutter effect is seems like you just haven't opened the shutter or turned up the intensity.Have you done this?:Select the fixtures then press the 'locate' button. You should be getting light now. Then run your pan and tilt fx.Press clear to get rid of everything up or press record and then a select to record whats happening to a playback.
Mark M Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 OK, select MX4, press locate and we have light!! Can pan tilt etc and change colour and gobo. I feel this is obviously a really stupid question but how do I get the shutter to open without pressing locate? The MX1 has started working, dont know what I did but with that having an intesity channel I can get that one to work as I expect.
paulears Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Assuming the profile is the correct one, then beam should come up on the gobo wheel. Locate just flashes the dimmer or shutter channel of a fixture to full, but on the simple mirrir fixtures I have, this doesn't work on them at all - the fact that yours does is odd. The MX-1 has an intensity channel, but downloading the data from Martin says I'm wrong about the gobo channel - the MX-4 doesn't have a dimmer but does have an open/close/strobe channel - so I'd bet you've just not got the right personality in there. The way to test them is to use consecutive dimmer channels and set the DMX start address to the first one - then you can test each attribute separately. Not having any more info than that, that's the best I can do.
Wol Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Erm, I cant seem to find the gobo button on MagicQ and I dont have the manual to hand! Any tips? Will d/l the manual now however. For reference, when you install MagicQ, it also installs a copy of the manual in the program folder as well so if you do need to read it, and have Acrobat reader installed, then you should be able to open it up ;)
