the-techi Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Hi, I've recently bought some second-hand speakers from Ebay "2X JBL EON15 G2s, I've plugged a standard microphone with jack socket into the second input and there seems to be a considerable loss of sound... My other hi - fi speakers that are only 75w seem to be way, way louder than these 400w speakers? Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks
Bobbsy Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 The speaker inputs are set up to accept a line level input, not a microphone. This means your input signal is something like 40-60dB too low. Get yourself an inexpensive mixer, plug the mic into that and the main output of the mixer into the speakers and they'll suddenly get a lot louder! Bob

handyandi Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Or - just plug your mic into the XLR mic input (input 1) & switch the recessed switch to mic.

Bobbsy Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 I'd forgotten the Eon G2s had a switchable mic input. Whichever way you go, it's probably worth switching your mic lead to XLR anyway. In the audio world, virtually all microphone inputs use XLR with quarter inch TRS jacks used for line level stuff. Even if you buy a mixer, you'll probably have to change the mic lead to use it properly. Bob
blueacid Posted May 3, 2010 Posted May 3, 2010 Try using the mic switch anyway? I think the inputs on those speakers are combi, so they'll accept either a Neutrik or Jack, running the signal down the same wires into the preamp/amplifier.
