svincent
Hi people I'm Currently looking at fitting a PC based lighting control software for a club. I'm looking at light jockey as its one I'm familiar with but would like peoples opinions to pass on to the customer. If you could list good alternatives or just give an opinion on it that would be great! Cheers
Wol
Use the search box in the top right corner to search for "PC based lighting control for club" and I reckon you'll find a lot of results, and opinions and options show up! Do you have any specific questions regarding software, or any particular requirements, or is this a generic query?
svincent
Ah so I see many subjects and threads I have overlooked! My apologies Its a general query really on the new lighting softwares that have come out and how easy they are to use in a live or "blagging it" situation. It needs to be easily usable by dj's and such on the fly and have LED control capabilities! possibly have a sound to light feature and have a midi device interface (keyboard or similar) (or a wing I guess) anyhow will have a look through existing past threads and see what I find! cheers
Richard CSL
I went on the Lightjockey training course in Maidstone and found it to be a work in progress, there are many aspects unfinished, not least the help files. That said if you do not need the complexity but want something of a cut down version , which is stable and can be controlled by a midi desk. I would strongly recomend the Freestyler software. As this is based on LJ anyway, but at a fraction of the cost. Oh and there is a touch screen function too. Others here will strongly recomend Magic Q. which is indeed more powerful even than LJ. but the learning curve is steep.
Will Perkins
Have a look at Daslight (www.daslight.com), it's a very intuative system which costs half the price of LJ. You can easily setup groups and palettes and currently has a great support for a large number of fixtures. There are also full midi capabilties to fire off palettes and effects. There is also a colour mixing system for both RGB and CMY.
